About the role
- Delivering complete, accurate, and timely financial and tax-effect accounting inputs in the month/quarter/year-end close process for local and group reporting, identifying inputs, preparing necessary schedules, postings, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Serving as the subject matter expert to analyse and deliver insights into the composition of and movements in assigned accounts and tax-accounting related balances, including the impact on AAL's financial performance, position, and capital base to enable strategic decision making.
- Undertaking other financial accounting activities such as underwriting agency reviews, user acceptance testing, and accounting operations as requested in a timely, complete, and accurate manner to ensure a robust general ledger is in place.
- Designing and executing robust, effective, and efficient processes and controls to support the month-end close on areas assigned, including accounting and tax-effect processes.
- Preparing financial statement note disclosures, local & group reporting, commentary, and supporting external audit processes relating to areas assigned, including tax effect accounting. Proactively responding to audit queries as part of the year-end process.
- Collaborating across Finance to articulate impacts of changes in business operations on accounts under management.
- Delivering continuous improvement of the delivery process and product, including but not limited to process/control improvement initiatives, automation, changes to service levels and catalogues, system enhancements, and service providers.
- Supporting broader Finance activities that contribute to the Division achieving its goals and objectives as assigned.
About you
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline with relevant certification (CA / CPA or equivalent).
- Experience in financial accounting and reporting, including preparation and/or review of tax effect accounting entries and the application of accounting standards for a general insurer.
- Experience in application of multiple accounting / tax bases in a group / multi-national environment.
- Knowledgeable in ASIC, APRA and tax accounting and reporting requirements.
- Strong experience in accounting and reporting systems eg. SAP GL, TM1 as well as tax calculation and reporting software such as CTS.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively partner and collaborate with stakeholders of varying levels of seniority to establish strong professional relationships and influence outcomes.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of communicating with audiences at all levels with clarity, impact and influence.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and prioritise effectively, organise tasks and manage competing resources and demands.
- Proven analytical and critical thinking capability to interpret a range of data, identify patterns, trends and links that inform judgements and solutions.
