Our client, a highly respected Florida based SEC-registered Asset Manager with over $25 billion in assets, is seeking a visionary Senior Investment Research Analyst with expertise in genomics and biotechnology to join their senior investment leadership team. They manage and sub-advise long-only global equity portfolios across various investment vehicles, including a suite of exchange-traded funds (ETFs), a venture fund, mutual funds, and separately managed accounts. Position Overview
The Senior Investment Research Analyst for the Genomics/Biotech Sector will be responsible for leading the investment research for the genomics and biotechnology-focused portfolio. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in genomics/biotechnology, a keen understanding of financial markets, and a passion for disruptive innovation. This role involves conducting rigorous research and providing critical insights and analysis to support the portfolio manager in making informed investment decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Sector Analysis:
Conduct in-depth research and analysis on the genomics and biotechnology sectors, identifying key trends, emerging technologies, and market dynamics. - Company Research:
Evaluate and monitor companies within the genomics and biotechnology space, including startups, established firms, and potential disruptors. Analyze financial statements, management teams, product pipelines, competitive landscapes, and growth strategies. - Investment Insights:
Generate actionable investment ideas based on comprehensive research. Develop and present investment theses, highlighting risks and opportunities for potential inclusion in the portfolio. - Financial Modeling:
Build and maintain detailed financial models to project company performance, assess valuation, and analyze various investment scenarios. - Market Monitoring:
Track industry news, regulatory developments, and scientific advancements to stay ahead of market changes. Provide real-time updates on events impacting the genomics and biotech sectors. - Collaboration:
Work closely with the portfolio manager to implement investment strategies and adjust holdings based on changing market conditions and new insights. - Reporting:
Prepare and deliver regular reports, presentations, and recommendations to the portfolio manager and other stakeholders. - Networking:
Engage with industry experts, attend conferences, and maintain relationships with analysts, scientists, and executives to gather proprietary insights and build a robust information network.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in genomics, biotechnology, biology, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in investment management, equity research, or a similar role with a focus on genomics/biotechnology.
- Proven track record of successful investment decision-making and research anaysis in the life sciences sector.
- Strong financial modeling and valuation skills.
- Proficiency in using financial analysis tools such as Bloomberg, FactSet, or similar platforms.
Preferred
- Advanced degrees (e.g., Ph.D., Master’s, or MBA and or CFA) are highly preferred.
- Familiarity with biotech R&D processes, regulatory pathways, and commercialization strategies.
- Strong understanding of industry dynamics, including emerging technologies, competitive landscape, and market opportunities.
