Our client, a highly respected Florida based SEC-registered Asset Manager with over $25 billion in assets, is seeking a visionary Portfolio Manager with expertise in genomics and biotechnology to join their senior investment leadership team. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of disruptive innovation in life sciences by leveraging cutting-edge research and investment strategies.

More than a decade old, the staff have dedicated themselves to identifying large-scale investment opportunities driven by advancements in genome sequencing, robotics, artificial intelligence, energy storage, and blockchain technology. The staffs investment approach focuses on identifying the leaders, enablers, and beneficiaries of these revolutionary changes in both public and private markets.

They manage and sub-advise long-only global equity portfolios across various investment vehicles, including a suite of exchange-traded funds (ETFs), a venture fund, mutual funds, and separately managed accounts. Their investments are guided by an open research ecosystem, fostering a collaborative and research-driven culture that encourages exploration and innovation.

Position Overview

The Portfolio Manager for the Genomics Sector will be responsible for leading and or co-leading the investment strategy and managing the genomics and biotechnology-focused portfolio. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in genomics, a keen understanding of financial markets, and a passion for disruptive innovation. This role involves developing investment strategies, conducting rigorous research, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive superior investment performance.

 

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Management

  • Lead and or co-lead the genomics-focused portfolio, ensuring optimal performance and risk management.
  • Develop and implement investment strategies that align with the firm’s overarching philosophy of investing in disruptive innovation.
  • Conduct regular portfolio reviews and adjust strategies as needed to maximize returns while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Research & Analysis

  • Perform in-depth analysis of genomics and biotech companies, evaluating their financials, business models, competitive positioning, and growth potential.
  • Stay updated on the latest industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes affecting the genomics sector.
  • Develop and present original investment theses, supported by rigorous research and analysis.

Industry Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with industry leaders, academic researchers, and corporate executives to gather insights on emerging trends and opportunities.
  • Represent the firm at high-profile industry conferences, seminars, and events, enhancing its thought leadership and market presence.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and other portfolio managers to identify cross-sector investment opportunities.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members in genomics research, financial analysis, and portfolio management.
  • Contribute to the firm’s thought leadership through research publications, white papers, and presentations.

Performance Reporting

  • Prepare detailed reports on portfolio performance, industry developments, and investment opportunities for internal stakeholders and external clients.
  • Communicate investment strategies, decisions, and performance results effectively to clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in genomics, biotechnology, biology, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in investment management, equity research, or a similar role with a focus on genomics/biotechnology.
  • Proven track record of successful investment decision-making and portfolio management in the life sciences sector.
  • Strong financial modeling and valuation skills.
  • Proficiency in using financial analysis tools such as Bloomberg, FactSet, or similar platforms.

Preferred

  • Advanced degrees (e.g., Ph.D., Master’s, or MBA and or CFA) are highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with biotech R&D processes, regulatory pathways, and commercialization strategies.
  • Strong understanding of industry dynamics, including emerging technologies, competitive landscape, and market opportunities.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly and persuasively.
