Job Description

Help people create their tomorrow, while you create yours

We help people with their banking, super, retirement and finances. Through upturns, downturns, recessions, and major life transitions. Every day, we help people see and make more of their financial potential, so that they can create their tomorrow. And we've been doing it for over 170 years.

If we do our job well, we genuinely add to the prosperity of our country and its people.

The role involves statutory financial reporting (ASIC) and regulatory reporting (APRA, ASIC, ABS). Specifically, the role will be providing financial control support, managing the general ledger, financial reporting, and financial analysis. A key focus is on process improvement, integration, and change.

Additionally, the role requires working across functional business teams to influence change strategies and drive business improvements. Contributing to the Planning and Performance Finance Team is essential to meet both team and wider AMP corporate objectives.

How you will make an impact
  • Manage the preparation and review of statutory and regulatory reports and ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, laws and regulations for the AMP superannuation funds and managed investment schemes.
  • Prepare accounting position papers, analyse changes in financial reporting requirements, and provide ad-hoc accounting advice, including policies, estimates, judgements, and financial risk management.
  • Manage operational accounting processes to ensure data integrity and adequate internal controls, including understanding financial systems and procedures.
  • Prepare balance sheet accounts and reconciliations and assist in liquidity and cashflow analysis.
  • Contribute to Audit Committee and Board reporting, ensuring timely and accurate closure of accounting records and delivery of reporting deliverables.
  • Task Planning and Documentation: Plan and prioritise tasks, especially during financial reporting periods and create and maintain accounting procedures documentation.
  • Identify and implement control and system enhancements, efficiencies and improvements, maintaining a continuous improvement mindset.

What you will bring to the role
  • Relevant accounting, business, finance or economics degree.
  • Professional accounting qualification - CA / CPA
  • Ideally at least 5 years relevant experience, preferably in the financial services industry, superannuation fund or similar role.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting standards and statutory / regulatory reporting requirements relevant to the role.
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation or audit of superannuation fund and statutory and regulatory financial reports.
  • Highly developed report writing - be able to succinctly communicate issues.
  • Extensive experience in the use of financial systems, databases, internet applications, Excel and Word.

We are looking for a candidate with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, who can clearly explain complex financial issues. Attention to detail, excellent analytical and problem-solving proficiencies and the ability to build effective business relationships are essential. The candidate should be well-organised, able to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of finance systems, particularly Excel, Access, and Word. They should be self-motivated, proactive, and eager to take on new challenges, with a focus on continuous improvement. A sense of energy, ownership, and personal commitment to their work is crucial.
