Based in Downtown Los Angeles, Oaktree is seeking an associate to work within the Strategic Credit Group for a 2-year program. This is a sector generalist role with the potential for specialization in the future. The Strategic Credit mandate is highly flexible and, as such, the role will require analysis of a variety of asset classes including, but not limited to, secured debt and equity-linked securities.

Responsibilities

The Associate will participate in all transaction functions and portfolio management activities:
  • Analyzing company financial statements;
  • Developing detailed financial models with projections;
  • Assessing company capital structures and reviewing related legal documents;
  • Analyzing company valuations using various macroeconomic and business specific assumptions;
  • Conducting interviews with industry experts and company management;
  • Performing qualitative business and industry due diligence;
  • Assessing strengths and weaknesses of various businesses;
  • Performing comparable company analyses;
  • Developing comprehensive investment thesis and memos;
  • Presenting investment ideas to portfolio management;
  • Participating in deal structuring, legal documentation and negotiations; and
  • Monitoring the performance of existing portfolio investments.

Qualifications
  • 2-3 years of experience as an analyst with a top investment bank within merchant banking or leveraged finance.
  • Outstanding financial modeling and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated competency in financial statement analysis, business valuation, accounting and finance.
  • Experience analyzing fixed income a plus, but not required

Education

A Bachelor's degree with honors from a top university or college is required.

The base salary for this role will be $150,000-$160,000 plus a discretionary bonus and comprehensive benefits package
