Manager, Investment Operations

We are currently seeking someone to lead our Investment Operations team. The Investment Services team manages over $8 billion in assets primarily used to fund teacher benefits. Our investment professionals use their financial skills to perform the day-to-day operations of the investment program. This position will appeal to a candidate who would like to use their problem solving and financial skills to support the teaching profession in Saskatchewan.

What is the role?

The Manager, Investment Operations is responsible for overseeing daily investment operations, including system development and maintenance, performance monitoring, reporting, and ensuring compliance with tax and regulatory requirements. This role involves actively managing relationships with fund administrators and custodians, and auditors, ensuring alignment with best practices and organizational objectives. As part of the investment leadership team, the manager plays a key role in shaping investment strategy. Additionally, the position leads a team of operations professionals, providing leadership and guidance to ensure tasks are executed effectively. Responsibilities include developing training plans, managing performance, setting annual objectives, and prioritizing work to align with departmental goals.

What you’ll bring

  • An undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field, combined with 5 - 7 years of relevant industry experience in investment operations. A Master's degree or professional certification such as CFA or CA are highly desirable.
  • A strong understanding of portfolio management, fund administration, tax compliance, and performance monitoring.
  • Proven ability to lead and mentor a small team, including developing training plans, managing workload, and driving performance.
  • Strong understanding of investment asset types (e.g., equities, fixed income, private equity, alternatives), trade settlement, valuations, tax considerations, and compliance requirements.
  • In-depth knowledge of global regulatory requirements (e.g., KYC, AML, W-8, tax filings) and industry best practices related to investment operations.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the ability to assess complex financial data and make informed decisions related to portfolio operations and reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to senior management and external parties.
  • Proficiency in investment management software, accounting systems, and data reporting tools.
  • Ability to focus on details while managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with internal teams and external service providers.
  • Skilled in managing organizational change effectively.

What we offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $119,000 - $145,656, a 35-hour work week plus a full range of benefits, including extended health and dental care; retirement plan; group life insurance; 4 weeks starting vacation; sick leave; long-term disability and paid leave to deal with family, health and sickness and compassionate situations.
