Job Description:
This is a pivotal role responsible for driving the strategic direction and business operations in Emerging Markets. Reporting to President, Emerging Markets, Asia, this role will provide oversight of governance, identification of growth opportunities and financial levers, strategy execution, distribution excellence, client impact, Board engagement, regulatory and partner relationships, as well as the management of performance, financials, and risks. The successful candidate will ensure that all strategic initiatives are aligned with the Sun Life Asia's objectives and regulatory requirements, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement and maximize client impact
The role will be a core key member of Emerging Markets leadership team working in close partnership with CEOs in Emerging Markets and Regional Functional teams in driving strategic business agenda to deliver committed business outcomes. This role will also need to establish strategic relationship with JV partners and Board members of Emerging Markets and may attend Board meetings as assigned by President, Emerging Markets, Asia

1. Strategic Planning and Growth:
- Develop and implement long-term strategic plans for Emerging Markets aligned with Sun Life Asia growth strategy and vision.
- Identify and capitalize on growth opportunities and financial levers to enhance profitability and market share.
- Lead the strategic planning process in partnership with Corporate Strategy and Enablement, including market analysis and competitive positioning and propositions.
- Oversee the execution of strategic initiatives, ensuring alignment with Sun Life Asia's strategic priorities.
- Drive speed to value through agile ways of working and robust project management to ensure timely and quality deliveries of results.
2. Client experience and distribution excellence- in partnership with Asia Client and Distribution
- Drive a culture of distribution, driving value realisation.
- Maximize client impact through building and strengthening the capability of digitizing client journeys and marketing propositions.
- Collaborate with BU's distribution team in implementing quality control measures to ensure execution excellence.
- Address and resolve client issues promptly to achieve superior and consistent client experience.
3. Performance and Financial Management:
- Oversee financial planning and budgeting for strategic initiatives.
- Monitor financial performance and ensure alignment with budgetary goals.
- Implement financial controls and practices to ensure sound financial management.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide actionable insights to drive improvements.
4. Board Engagement, Regulatory and Partner Relationships
- Engage with the Board of Directors to provide updates on strategic initiatives and business performance.
- Facilitate effective communication between the Board and management.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with regulatory bodies and industry partners.
- Negotiate and manage partnership agreements to ensure mutually beneficial outcomes.
5. Governance, Compliance and Risk Management - in partnership with Asia Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures to support compliance and governance best practices.
- Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets.
- Leverage regional risk management framework and policies, customize if appropriate and implement applicable risk management practices to identify, assess, and mitigate risks based on local regulatory and business requirements.
Specialized knowledge
- Deep technical understanding of insurance industry including client drivers, expectations and macro-economic trends
- Deep understanding of financial modeling and competitive landscape across Asia and ability to concisely interpret implications for the business
- Analytical/problem solving skills, with a logical thought process - to sort, analyse and interpret large amounts of qualitative and quantitative information and data
- Strong business acumen, strategic thinking and the ability to work with multi-disciplinary stakeholders and functional groups to achieve agreed and shared outcomes
- Gravitas and extensive communication and networking skills
- Capable of developing and maintaining deep technical dialogues with a wide range of stakeholders across the Asia region
- Strong multi-disciplinary workshopping skills to work through complexity and build co-owned business outcomes
Education and experience
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, Finance, Actuarial or a related field.
- Minimum 20 years of experience in strategic planning, business development or a related role within life insurance industry
- Proven track record of leadership and team management experience
- Equivalent role experience in adjacent competitors will be highly regarded
