Job Description

The director, financial planning directs the development of the Kern River Gas Transmission (KRGT) budget and ten-year financial forecast and related scenario forecasts. Responsibilities include directing the development, maintenance and updating of the financial models and forecasting tools; establishing a comprehensive schedule for KRGT; managing the development and review of forecast assumptions; working closely with the business leadership and staff to prepare and update revenue, operations and maintenance, and capital expenditure forecasts, analyzing the results of the forecasting efforts and working closely with the business leadership and staff to understand and explain variances; providing recommendations to management based on analyses of various input assumptions and modeling techniques; as well as supporting KRGT, BHE Pipeline Group and Berkshire Hathaway Energy Company senior leadership in analyzing financial impacts from contract negotiations, rate case and other regulatory filings, growth activities, etc. and managing other financial processes and controls.

Responsibilities

Direct the development of the Company's budget and financial forecast and related issues and advise management regarding the results of such forecasts. Direct the preparation of the KRGT financial forecast and related scenario forecasts; review and analyze the financial and economic assumptions, inputs and results of the corporate forecasts for consistency, accuracy and reasonableness; advise management regarding the impact of various input assumptions and modeling techniques; suggest alternative modeling techniques; direct detailed reconciliation of actual results versus forecasted results for earnings and cash flow variances. Administer controls to assure accuracy and consistency of actual and projected financial information. Manage all project authorizations for expenditures and ensure compliance. Direct and/or prepare complex financial analyses of various business issues and scenarios including the impacts of mergers and acquisitions, new business ventures and other investment opportunities. Manage the intercompany billings process and review charges from affiliates. Ensure Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and state affiliate rules and corporate reporting requirements are met and incorporated into KRGT business initiatives. Manage the respective service agreements under these requirements. Direct the development, maintenance and enhancement of the financial models and forecasting tools necessary to facilitate preparation of the financial forecasts; ensure models incorporate current methodologies and accurately reflect company guidelines and regulatory policies; advise management of suggestions for improvements and recommend courses of action. Develop strategic and operational plans for control, management and improvement of financial planning capabilities and for ensuring alignment with company goals and objectives. Lead or participate in special projects related to financial initiatives. Perform administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, including employee safety, selection and development of employees, salary administration, budget administration, employee counseling and motivation, organization goals and objectives and planning, organizing, integrating, measuring and reporting the work performed within the department. Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. Typically, six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree. MBA, CFA. or CPA preferred. Seven years progressive work experience in the area of financial forecasting and modeling or eight years of prior progressive work experience in the area of finance or accounting. Must have three years previous supervisory/management responsibilities and experience. Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills to interpret economic, financial and accounting information; competent working knowledge and understanding of accounting practices and principles, financial statements and financial analysis methods and tools. Ability to develop, review and maintain financial models for acquisitions, regulatory filings, and development initiatives. Software skills to create and understand financial models and spreadsheets, extract specific information from accounting systems and experience with mainframes and PC applications. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills. Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities. Project management skills: ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects concurrently, while maintaining schedules to meet deadlines.
