Job Description

This position is responsible for directing wholesale electric and natural gas trading activities related to managing BHE Renewables' generation assets and the associated power, natural gas and environmental attribute positions. The director, energy trading develops and oversees the execution of marketing strategies associated with electricity (energy and capacity), natural gas and environmental commodities in markets every region of the United States, with particular focus on ERCOT, PJM, CAISO and the New York ISO. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with company trading and risk management policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees department responsible for operational management of electricity, natural gas and renewable energy certificate portfolios.
  • Coordinates daily trading activities with plant and real-time market operations staff.
  • Supports pricing and valuation of long-term power purchase agreements and other commodity contracts.
  • Uses financial and physical instruments to mitigate commodity price risk and improve financial performance in accordance with risk management policies and procedures.
  • Ensures organization compliance with transportation, transmission and local delivery company natural gas and electric tariffs.
  • Manages positions to maintain compliance with company risk policies.
  • Oversees the management and recommendation improvements of trading capabilities and control.
  • Manage integration of new and acquired assets into trading operations.
  • Perform administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department including employee safety, selection and development of employees, salary administration, budget administration employee counseling and motivation, organization goals and objectives and planning, organization, integrating, measure and reporting the work performed within the department.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, accounting, economics, statistics or similar field or equivalent work experience, advanced degree preferred.
  • 8 or more years related work experience, including 3 years supervisory/management responsibilities and at least 3 years of energy marketing/risk management experience.
  • Superior negotiation skills, strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Strong personal computer skills with excellent proficiency in Excel.
