Description
Architectural firm in NYC is hiring a Controller! The Controller will oversee all financial operations for the company, ensuring accuracy and compliance in accounting practices while supporting the firm's strategic goals. The ideal candidate has a solid background in project accounting, general ledger management, AP/AR, and financial reporting, preferably in an architectural or project-driven environment. Experience with Deltek software, CPA certification, and a strong understanding of GAAP is required.

Key Responsibilities:
Accounting Operations
- Oversee and manage all aspects of accounting operations, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), payroll, and general ledger.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Manage the financial aspects of project accounting, including project budgets, billing, cost tracking, and revenue recognition.
Financial Management
- Develop and maintain the company's financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Prepare and present financial forecasts, budgets, and variance analyses to leadership.
- Oversee cash flow management, ensuring the availability of funds for operational needs.
Deltek System Management
- Utilize Deltek software for financial management, reporting, and project accounting.
- Lead or support the integration and optimization of Deltek functionality to improve workflow efficiency.
Compliance and Audit
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal financial policies.
- Coordinate and manage annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team, providing guidance and development opportunities.
- Collaborate with project managers and other departments to ensure financial alignment with business goals.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.
Experience:
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles.
- Experience in the architectural, engineering, or construction industry preferred.
- Proficiency with Deltek (Vision, Vantagepoint, or similar).
Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of GAAP.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
- Familiarity with project-based financial management and reporting.
Competencies:
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Ability to analyze complex financial data and communicate insights effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate across teams and with external stakeholders.
