Controller

Description

Architectural firm in NYC is hiring a Controller! The Controller will oversee all financial operations for the company, ensuring accuracy and compliance in accounting practices while supporting the firm's strategic goals. The ideal candidate has a solid background in project accounting, general ledger management, AP/AR, and financial reporting, preferably in an architectural or project-driven environment. Experience with Deltek software, CPA certification, and a strong understanding of GAAP is required.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounting Operations

• Oversee and manage all aspects of accounting operations, including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), payroll, and general ledger.
• Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Manage the financial aspects of project accounting, including project budgets, billing, cost tracking, and revenue recognition.

Financial Management

• Develop and maintain the company's financial policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance and efficiency.
• Prepare and present financial forecasts, budgets, and variance analyses to leadership.
• Oversee cash flow management, ensuring the availability of funds for operational needs.

Deltek System Management

• Utilize Deltek software for financial management, reporting, and project accounting.
• Lead or support the integration and optimization of Deltek functionality to improve workflow efficiency.

Compliance and Audit

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal financial policies.
• Coordinate and manage annual audits and liaise with external auditors.

Team Leadership

• Supervise and mentor the accounting team, providing guidance and development opportunities.
• Collaborate with project managers and other departments to ensure financial alignment with business goals.

Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required.

Experience:

• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles.
• Experience in the architectural, engineering, or construction industry preferred.
• Proficiency with Deltek (Vision, Vantagepoint, or similar).

Technical Skills:

• Strong knowledge of GAAP.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
• Familiarity with project-based financial management and reporting.
