Job Description

*The seniority of the role offered (Associate or Senior Associate) can be adjusted, depending on the candidate's experience and the skills demonstrated during the interviews process.

Based in London, the Associate/Senior Associate will report to the Managing Director, European Private Debt. He/She will work on the evaluation of investment opportunities, deal structuring, execution and active monitoring of CDPQ's investments in the Private Debt portfolio in Europe.

What you will do
  • Perform preliminary analysis of investment opportunities (research and fundamental analysis on the industry, business model soundness, leadership quality and strategy, competitive positioning, corporate risk, etc.);
  • Participate in the investment appraisal process (assess merits and risks of investment opportunities by performing detailed due diligence, meet with Management teams, review third-party reports, discuss with internal and external sector experts, etc.);
  • Financial analysis and detailed modeling;
  • Prepare investment papers and participate in discussions with the Investment Committee to secure approvals for new transactions;
  • Monitor and report on performance of existing investments.

What you bring
  • Four (4) to seven (7) years of experience performing similar tasks in Investment Banking (Leveraged Finance), Corporate Finance or Private Debt investing;
  • Strong financial and credit analytical skills;
  • Good understanding and knowledge of the investment industry, the credit instruments and markets;
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in business administration, finance, accounting or any related discipline;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be taken into consideration;
  • Good knowledge of the software tools and databases used in financial markets (Microsoft Office, Bloomberg, Capital IQ);
  • Proficiency in French and English, both written and spoken.

About CDPQ's Private Debt Team

Part of the Corporate Credit portfolio (CA$ 35 bn+ of AuM), the Private Debt strategy was launched in 2017 to focus on Direct Lending across North America and Europe. Present in Montreal, New York and London, the team provides tailor-made financing solutions to companies and private equity sponsors across the full spectrum of the capital structure - from senior debt and unitranche to subordinated and PIK debt instruments.

Currently comprised of 11 investment professionals based in London, the European Private Debt team has already successfully invested c.€7bn in 40+ transactions since 2018. The team is now looking to expand further and add additional resources.
