We're seeking a future team member for the role of European Tax Director to join our EMEA Tax Department, principally supporting the EMEA region but have responsibility for providing direct tax advice in all locations the BNY Group operates in. The successful candidate will report to the EMEA Head of Tax and work closely with the wider Corporate Tax team in London and the US as well as central and regional Finance teams. This role is in London Hybrid.

In this role, you'll make an impact in the following ways:
  • Partnering with the business to provide accurate direct tax advice and tax related support for a wide range of international business transactions, including M&A, corporate restructurings, new products and markets, using external advisors as needed
  • Identifying, design and implement opportunities for increased tax efficiencies. Advise on the tax implications of cross-border financing, including intercompany loans and internal funding as well as support on corporate withholding tax matters and dividend processes. Review, negotiate, and secure tax rulings and tax clearances as needed to implement BNY's global tax strategy;
  • Managing external advisors, colleagues and tax authorities to resolve continental European tax issues and disputes. Lead tax related discussions, negotiations and representations with Tax Authorities, Government representatives and Regulators in EMEA.
  • Advise on transfer pricing and international tax elements of BNY's compliance, for example review and update of existing transfer pricing policies, intercompany agreements, permanent establishment risk reviews, manage external advisors to ensure BNY's compliance with global local file requirements;
  • Ensure the business and the wider tax department is kept up to date with changes in international tax legislation through attendance at industry/lobbying forums and developing strong relationships with external advisors. Assess impact to BNY, design and implement new processes and procedures to adhere to applicable laws;
  • Develop and maintain strong, productive relationships with external advisers, key contacts in the lines of business, European Bank management, and business partner groups within BNYM across multiple jurisdictions.
To be successful in this role, we're seeking the following:
  • Qualified ACA / ACCA / CTA (or equivalent);
  • A number of years tax experience in a large group environment or advisory firm;
  • Strong tax technical background with recent international tax and transfer pricing experience, ideally in the banking and/or asset management sectors;
  • US based multinational experience a plus;
  • French or German speaking a plus;
  • Quarterly EU business travel required;
  • Ability to work independently and to drive a project forward to completion;
  • An individual focused on accountability and operating within and enhancing the existing tax risk and control framework;
  • An analytical and process driven individual with problem solving skills and a risk based approached outlook to making decisions and recommendations
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, particularly with respect to communicating complex tax matters to wider non-tax audiences.
  • A highly organised, proactive and team player who is able to prioritise, manage competing demands and work to demanding and, sometimes, tight deadlines;
  • A strong team player who enjoys working collaboratively and fostering stronger working relationships within the Corporate Tax Department, the wider business and externally with our advisors and local tax authorities.
