Westpac Institutional Bank (WIB) manages the financial needs of corporate, institutional and government clients. We are a leading provider of wholesale banking services in the area, with an increasing presence in the Northern Hemisphere region.

The Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) focuses on understanding our clients and their industry to provide our customers with solutions that meet their business needs.

The Project Finance (PF) team is responsible for the provision of non-recourse debt financing solutions for the WIB customer base.

How will I help?

As a Director, Project Finance, you will join CIB and be responsible for leading a team of Project Finance Professionals in the origination, structuring, and execution of complex debt transactions across multiples sectors including the Power & Renewables, as well as Infrastructure sectors. You and your team will evaluate the credit quality of these complex debt transactions and be a key member of the Project Finance business ensuring excellence in product delivery, effective utilisation of systems, and risk analysis, resulting in customer satisfaction and sustainable profitability.

Internally, you will work closely with members of the PF team, Loan Markets team, Relationship Managers, Industry Analysts, Financial Markets, Legal, and Credit. Externally you will work closely with clients, lawyers, due diligence consultants and other banks.

Further key responsibilities include:
  • Participate as a leader of the business focussing on originating new PF opportunities
  • People management including coaching, developing and leading a team of PF specialists
  • Develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Have proactive involvement in the credit decision processes
  • Actively participate in origination and customer account planning process
  • Independently work with customers to assess credit risk
  • Undertake post deal reviews both externally & internally
  • Actively engage target customers and Risk to ensure policies and procedures are compliant

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, you will be an experienced Institutional or Transactional or Investment Banking professional with demonstratable capabilities in structuring, negotiating, documenting, and seeking credit approval for project financings or structured credit approvals.

You will also be a self-motivated leader, with demonstrable team leading experience. You will also possess strong initiative, integral drive, and customer service values, to achieve results with your team.

Further key attributes include:
  • In-depth knowledge of PF debt structures and other funding solutions
  • Track record in leading PF or complex debt transactions
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of customer and investor markets
  • Strong cash flow modelling and credit writing skills
  • Ability to work to tight timetables in a deal driven environment
  • Strong analytical skills combined with an understanding of key business drivers
  • Experience in the financing of renewable energy and infrastructure projects is preferred
