Position Summary 

The Senior Investment Analyst will manage investments for the $21 billion externally managed Variable Annuity Program. This role also involves overseeing multi-asset global equity strategies, conducting market research, and liaising with key stakeholders to maximize risk-adjusted returns. Reporting to the Director of Investment Administration, the duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

Key Responsibilities 

Conduct in-depth research and analysis on current and potential investment managers, evaluating their investment process, market opportunities, team dynamics, and other critical factors. Support the Investment Consultant and Director of Investment Administration in making informed recommendations on external managers to the Investment Board.  

Maintain vigilant monitoring of external managers and stay abreast of market events through comprehensive analysist of research and market reports.  

Ensure a balanced and strategic approach to managing risk by integrating regulatory, compliance, and fiduciary controls into all investment activities.  

Develop and sustain detailed analytical reports to evaluate and monitor the performance of both prospective and existing investments, ensuring data-driven decision-making.  

Produce performance and exposure reports for the Fund's diversifying asset-class investments, compiling detailed summaries of investment managers' market outlooks.  

Regularly engage with existing managers to assess changes in organization or strategy, review performance, positioning, and outlook on a monthly or quarterly basis. 

Contribute to the monthly rebalancing process of the variable annuity program, ensuring optimal asset allocation.  

Prepare and organize monthly investment meetings, ensuring the timely distribution of agendas and all relevant investment materials.  

Review and assess service provider contracts in accordance with TRS policies and guidelines, ensuring key performance indicators meet established service level agreements.  

Collaborate with Investment Consultant to review and negotiate fee arrangements with existing and potential external managers, optimizing cost-efficiency. 

Provide strategic support to senior management and key stakeholders on investment-related matters. including active participation in relevant Board meetings.  

Assist in the preparation of investment materials, publications, and other informational content on pertinent investment topics.  

Conduct special projects as needed, showcasing adaptability and a proactive approach. 

 

Minimum Qualifications 

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in the administration of an employees’ retirement system or a closely related field, including at least 18 months in a managerial, administrative or supervisory capacity. 

Preferred Skills 

Bachelor’s degree in finance or related field.  

MBA or CFA preferred, but not required.  

Minimum 5 years of extensive experience in external manager selection and monitoring. 

Familiarity with Morningstar Direct, Evestment and Bloomberg is a plus. 

A passion for investing and continuous learning, as you will manage a portfolio spanning diverse asset classes and investment styles.  

Proven record of high achievement, capable of both collaborative and independent work, demonstrating analytical rigor and intellectual curiosity.  

Superior communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and key stakeholders.   

Strong work ethic, consistently meet deadlines and goals while managing multiple projects, without compromising quality or accuracy. 

Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills, with an ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.  

Travel Requirement: This position requires approximately 30% travel.

Residency Requirement 

New York City residency is generally required. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
