Put your mind to future use

At the Future Fund, we’re for future minds – like yours. The new investors and creators who thrive on different thinking and doing it together. Those who glimpse opportunity before it strikes and step up every day to grab it.

The Future Fund is Australia's Sovereign Wealth Fund, managing over $290 billion across seven public asset funds with the same purpose: growing Australia’s future. We are a global investor and work closely with world leading investment organisations to access the best investment ideas.

Where others see challenges, we see more interesting investment experiences. Every person, every skillset, every mindset is an asset. We’ve got every future generation to consider, yet our approach to investing is incredibly pure: we think about it deeply, and daily. Ours is a culture where great people grow the future together, with the rare ability to work collaboratively, think freely, and make a real difference.

The Opportunity

This exciting role sits within the Dynamic Asset Allocation (“DAA”) team, which has responsibility for the broad market exposures of the overall portfolios we manage.  The DAA team is responsible for making recommendations across three horizons; structural, long term and medium term.

The Senior Associate, DAA, will work in the Investment Team and will help to craft the recommendations the team makes to the Investment Committee and Board.  The focus of the Longer-Term (“LT”) DAA team is the neutral mix of market exposures that are consistent with our long-term return objectives (eg CPI + 4 to 5% pa for the Future Fund portfolio), the Board’s risk appetite and our longer-term economic and market views. These exposures include our portfolios’ equity-equivalent level of risk, government bond exposures and currency exposures.

Although experience in investing is desirable, we will consider candidates from a broad range of backgrounds and experience (including at Associate level) – so long as there is a clear motivation for wanting to work within investments.

Key Responsibilities

As a key member of our Long-Term Dynamic Asset Allocation (LT DAA) team, you will develop and enhance our investment views, frameworks, and analytics. This involves building a deep understanding of our quantitative and qualitative investment frameworks, improving their efficacy and efficiency, and applying them to help design a multi-asset portfolio. You will also contribute to investment discussions and recommendations, balancing different approaches and views to form and communicate effective portfolio strategies.

In this collaborative role, you will work closely with colleagues and external partners on new investment ideas, providing your perspectives and applying critical thinking. Your ability to bring valuable insights to investment debates and enhance our team’s reputation for collaboration is crucial. Additionally, you will help answer stakeholder questions on mandate design and new fund setups, translating quantitative analysis into clear, actionable insights.

About You

We are looking for candidates with a strong educational background, ideally with demonstrated proficiency in fields like mathematics, engineering, finance, or the arts. Experience in asset management or capital markets, along with knowledge across multiple asset classes and portfolio construction, is highly desirable. Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Bloomberg is essential, and the ability to apply technology to investment problems, such as coding in Python, would be advantageous. Post graduate studies, a CFA or an actuarial qualification are also welcome.

Key competencies include strong quantitative, interpersonal, and communication skills, with an ability to balance different ideas and apply an intellectually curious mindset to solve problems. Candidates should be adept at evaluating investments from a total portfolio perspective and building relationships across the organisation. There will also be plenty of opportunity to grow and learn on the job. A commitment to diversity and inclusion, a collaborative spirit, and the ability to share knowledge and provide feedback are also critical for success in this role.

Please note this opportunity is open to Australian Citizens only.

We are for everyone

At Future Fund, we are better for our differences. Every person, every skillset, every mindset is an asset. We want everyone to feel comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work. Which is why we’re looking for future minds like yours. Your past experiences help us expand our collective knowledge, add value and create something better. When doing your job means Australia has more money to invest in renewables, education, healthcare and medical breakthroughs – there’s a tangible impact to what we do. And we want you to be part of it.
