Role Purpose
The role is to strengthen the existing tax team of Lloyd's Europe further to the increased tax reporting obligations in the different tax fields. The role is primarily focused on direct tax matters, but also involves VAT and insurance premium taxes, including providing EU tax technical information to the Lloyd's Market, dealing with projects and tax issues from a direct and indirect tax perspective and responding to tax audits.

Role Purpose
The role is to strengthen the existing tax team of Lloyd's Europe further to the increased tax reporting obligations in the different tax fields. Principal Accountabilities
- Prepare the group (tax) financial reporting and oversee European tax compliance of Lloyd's Europe;
- Leading on tax accounting matters to ensure compliance with Pillar 2 reporting
- Leading and managing the provision of support and advice to other Teams in the Lloyd's Europe, in conjunction with advisers where necessary, on domestic/European tax projects (including new legislation) and large contracts; responding to consultations where relevant and liaison with European tax authorities, in conjunction with advisers where necessary, to try to ensure tax rules do not disadvantage Lloyd's Europe vs comparable organizations;
- Leading on tax risk management within the department in conjunction with the Lloyd's Europe Risk Function
- To develop the control environment across the tax function, improving the control maturity.
- Contribute and develop the performance of the tax team;
- Contribute to departmental planning, budgeting and organization
- Work collaboratively with other teams to get things done

The role holder is expected to:
- Contribute to an open and transparent culture of risk management and demonstrate a strong awareness of the risks that should be managed within the responsibilities of the role; and
- Deliver responsibilities in line with all the relevant risk appetites, policies and reporting requirements; and
- Be accepted as subject-matter expert inside Lloyd's Europe

Whilst this is not a leadership role, the role holder is expected to:
- Contribute to an open and transparent culture of risk management and demonstrate a strong awareness of the risks that should be managed within the responsibilities of the role;
- Support the team in line with all relevant risk appetites, policies and reporting
Role Dimensions
- Reports to the Head of Tax
- Part of a team of 3 persons in Belgium (and part of the greater global tax team in the UK)
- Will receive appropriate support from outsourced service providers
Skills
- Advanced Excel knowledge and excellent attention to detail
- Strong communication skills and ability to liaise closely with professional advisors and tax authorities, and the ability to communicate tax-technical issues to a non-tax audience;
- Ability to work independently with guidance only on complex issues and organise and prioritise own work
- Ability to work as part of a team and liaise with other departments and external contacts
- Confidence to challenge information provided and to use initiative especially in dealing with areas of ambiguity
- Consultative approach and the ability to manage conflicting views
- Effective networking skills and ability to develop strong working relationships
- Good English oral and written skills
Knowledge
Existing knowledge - or the ability to develop the knowledge of:
- Belgian VAT related to Financial Services/Insurance sector
Existing knowledge of:
- Corporate taxation, including Transfer Pricing
- Insurance and the respective role of brokers and underwriters
- The legal, regulatory and accounting environment of the insurance sector
- Premium tax regimes in the EEA
Experience
- Experienced tax professional with strong fundamental tax & accounting skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the corporate tax / VAT field (in a Big Four is a plus)
- Tax advisors exam or equivalent is expected
- Awareness of international tax (PE) issues
- Track record of maintaining accurate and timely tax filings and developing solutions to challenges to these
Competences
- A proactive approach, actively identifying problems, taking responsibility for developing and implementing a solution.
- Confidence to ask questions and to use initiative especially in dealing with areas of ambiguity.
- Consultative approach with the ability to influence and persuade internal and external stakeholders and to manage conflicting views.
- Ability to adapt quickly to areas with which you may not be familiar. You will need to be prepared to challenge yourself.
