A global pharmaceuticals organisation is looking to appoint a Tax Accounting SME at Director level within their existing and well established tax function. This role would have global oversight and sit on the global tax leadership team. This will be a business partnering role and not an operational tax accounting/reporting position. The role requires a candidate with significant and demonstrable SME expertise in tax accounting (under IFRS or US GAAP) and the ability to understand complex tax accounting concepts and then apply them to large scale projects and transactions (eg. reorganisations, M&A deals, new business ventures / partnerships, permanent establishments, deferred tax asset recognition) to ensure they are correctly treated and risk is mitigated.

A global pharmaceuticals organisation is looking to appoint a Tax Accounting SME at Director level within their existing and well established tax function. This role would have global oversight and sit on the global tax leadership team. This will be a business partnering role and not an operational tax accounting/reporting position. The role requires a candidate with significant and demonstrable SME expertise in tax accounting (under IFRS or US GAAP) and the ability to understand complex tax accounting concepts and then apply them to large scale projects and transactions (eg. reorganisations, M&A deals, new business ventures / partnerships, permanent establishments, deferred tax asset recognition) to ensure they are correctly treated and risk is mitigated.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the review of tax accounting impacts under IAS12 of business transactions and strategies, both statutory and management upon the tax charge and balance sheet and ensure that these are accounted for correctly and disclosed appropriately in the tax reporting tool, Longview, and financial statements.
- Support with modelling tax and cash impacts of business transactions and strategies
- Work cross-functionally with various teams to understand the business strategies and communicate tax accounting impacts to non-tax specialists and senior stakeholders
- Support the delivery and review of elements of the group tax consolidation including the review of the US tax provision deliverables and other material regions.
- Lead discussions with auditors to explain the approach adopted on a timely basis and manage deliverables to the auditors including compliance with the appropriate control environment, including SOX
- Play a global leadership role in providing oversight to other initiatives or cross-functional projects impacting tax accounting materially
- Compile detailed Excel models to simulate the ETR impacts and Pillar Two considerations for significant transactions and business combinations and present the findings to Senior Management.
- Prepare tax memorandums to document tax positions taken related to complex transactions and lead the defense of tax positions as part of the quarterly external audit.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum of 10 years in tax accounting for a large corporation or practice.
- Accounting or tax qualification
- Expert knowledge of IAS12 tax accounting standard (or US GAAP specialist) and have demonstrated experience of applying these principles in practice
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects at once and to meet targeted due dates.
- Demonstrated clear and concise written and verbal skills in order to brief management on pertinent issues including simply explain complex principles
- Knowledge of SAP, Hyperion, and/or Longview Tax Reporting software would be advantageous
