The Financial Services Assurance practice in the UK has over 2200 professionals delivering external audit and other assurance services to clients within the financial service industry. Our professionals offer a wide range of services across Audit, Financial Accounting Advisory Services (FAAS), Extended Assurance (EA), Fraud Investigation & Dispute Services (Forensics), Climate Change and Sustainability Services (CCASS) and Technology Risk. The UK practice is part of EMEIA FSO which operates across 17 countries and encompasses more than 18,000 staff across all services lines.
The Professional Practice Directorate (PPD) team is responsible for ensuring the firm's compliance with the rules and regulations imposed either by external professional regulatory bodies or by EY Global in relation to the conduct of the firm's assurance business in the financial services industry.
The opportunity
PPD is responsible for leading the maintenance and enhancement of quality in the assurance practice. This is achieved by keeping the firm up to date on assurance and audit matters, both external regulatory issues and internal developments, by developing and communicating relevant guidance and policies and by performing a consultation role to client teams.
This PPD manager will play a vital role in supporting the practice in achieving its quality and risk management ambitions, against the backdrop of an ever-changing FS marketplace and regulatory environment. This is an exciting opportunity to improve audit quality across the UK firm.
We are looking for a proactive and pragmatic individual who can support the practice as well as develop initiatives and implement them into the practice.

Key responsibilities
- Responding to questions from individual audit teams on the application of the firm's auditing methodology and risk management policies
- First level review of formal PPD consultations on significant auditing issues (such as accounts prepared on a basis other than going concern, financial statements prepared on different GAAP/GAAS basis, resignation letters)
- Review of acceptance and continuance of clients and engagements
- Making updates to financial service specific enablers and templates to reflect changes in methodology or regulatory guidance
- Other audit quality/ risk management projects which may arise on an ad hoc basis, such as implementing new policies or assisting in team organisation.
- Review of audit files to check compliance with EY Global Audit Methodology
Skills and Experience
- Chartered accountant (or equivalent)
- Excellent communication skills
- A reasonable knowledge of current assurance quality and risk management issues and understanding of recent accounting developments
- Experience of managing and delivering Assurance engagements, preferably in an FS environment
- Strong organisational and project management skills, including the ability to plan ahead and manage your time
To qualify for the role you must have
- An accounting qualification coupled with membership of a recognised institute
- A good knowledge of IFRS and UK Auditing standards (ISA (UK))
- Experience in a similar role or recent experience of auditing UK listed companies/other major entities
- Good organisational, project management and time management skills with a strong focus on delivering results including an ability to plan ahead and anticipate problems
Ideally, you'll also have
- Experience in an FS environment or within a Big 4 professional services firm
