Overview of Position

The Director of Global Accounting Quality Assurance is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of the organization's financial statements and accounting processes. This role involves leading a team that assesses the quality of financial reporting, implementing robust internal controls, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. She/he will work closely with senior management to develop and maintain quality assurance programs that support the organization's financial goals and objectives.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

Balance Sheet Reconciliation Oversight (45%):
  • Monitor the accuracy and reliability of balance sheet reconciliation to support the quality and accuracy of the Enterprise balance sheet portfolio.
  • Collaborate with global accounting team to identify and resolve discrepancies or errors in financial data.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of the quality and accuracy of the Enterprise balance sheet portfolio.

Quality Assurance Program Development (5%):
  • Design, implement and manage the accounting quality assurance program to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Create appropriate milestones, timeline of deliverables, reporting of value-added learnings and insights.
  • Establish and maintain policies and procedures that align with accounting standards and best practices.

Internal Controls & Compliance (10%):
  • Oversee the development and implementation of internal controls to mitigate financial risks.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, including GAAP, IFRS, SOX, and other applicable standards.
  • Lead periodic audits and assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and processes.

Team Leadership & Development (25%):
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Provide training and development opportunities to ensure the team is knowledgeable about current accounting practices and regulatory changes.
  • Key member of the Recon COE team that ensures strategy, processes, and skill development across the areas, and supports the overall governance of goals and initiatives of the team.
  • Actively promotes innovation and collaboration, provides guidance, uses Assurant network or ideas and problem solving, leads on a cross site basis, actively transfers knowledge, and facilitates consistency.

Process Improvement (5%):
  • Identify areas for improvement in accounting processes and implement changes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices to continuously improve the quality assurance function.

Risk Management (5%):
  • Assess potential financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
  • Work with other departments to ensure that accounting practices support the organization's overall risk management strategies.

Collaboration & Communication (5%):
  • Serve as a liaison between the accounting department and other business units, providing guidance on accounting issues.
  • Communicate findings from quality assurance reviews to senior management and recommend corrective actions as needed.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA certification - working towards or committed to obtaining

Experience:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience in quality assurance, internal controls, and compliance within a large organization.

Skills:
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, general/management reporting, IFRS, and SOX compliance.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset and a focus on driving continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Superior leadership and team management abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial reporting tools.
  • Proven ability to building effective relationships in a multi-site, multi-function environment with the complexities of meeting the diverse needs of multiple business lines/stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan, manage and/or lead projects and provide leadership to accomplish project objectives.
  • Strong presentation, both written and oral, are required to synthesize key issues and communicate/persuade constituencies towards specific actions and initiatives to all levels within the company.
  • Expert Microsoft office suite skills

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?
  • CPA, CMA, or other relevant certifications preferred.
  • Experience with public accounting, auditing, or a similar role is highly desirable.
  • 5+ years of general accounting experience in an insurance industry.
  • Proficient in using Blackline or other balance reconciliation tool usage.
  • Project Management certification.
  • Knowledge in software for accounting and financial operations and demonstrated experience on management and control of the processes and financial practices (i.e. SOX, MAR, audits).
  • Prior experience leading process improvement initiatives
  • Experience with automated accounting tools

Pay Range:
$99,200.00 - $165,600.00

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
