Responsibilities

Manage the U.S. tax return process for BHE U.S. Transmission and BHE Montana (federal and state income/franchise tax returns). (15%-20%)

Manage monthly income tax provisions (i.e., tax accounting) for BHE U.S. Transmission and BHE Montana (including the preparation of quarterly and annual audit reports). Review all income tax provision documentation prepared by tax staff for the BHE U.S. Transmission and BHE Montana. Assist in the monthly consolidated process for the tax account roll-forward schedules being provided to Berkshire Hathaway Inc. Prepare the quarterly tax reserve for the BHE Transmission companies. (15-20%)

Manage quarterly estimates paid to federal and state authorities for the BHE U.S. Transmission and BHE Montana. Review cash tax work papers prepared by tax staff for the BHE Transmission companies. (5%-10%)

Supervise, develop and conduct or assist with performance reviews of tax staff assigned under this position or assigned to other tax professionals within the BHE organization but preparing tax work for BHE U.S. Transmission and BHE Montana. (2%)

Support tax planning and forecasting for the BHE U.S. Transmission and BHE Montana. (5%-10%)

Manage all tax diligence on new acquisitions and investments including transactional Prevailing Wage and Apprenticeship (PWA) work. Lead analysis from a tax perspective for any tax credits. (10-15%)

Prepare and/or review all property tax renderings and reports and support all tax assessment valuations and abatements. Including support for the coordination of property, sales/use and excise tax audits. Support the preparation of tax protests and representation before taxing authorities on disputed matters. (10%-15%)

Assist in the preparation/review of miscellaneous accounting work such as accounting memos for GAAP support of positions, review of capitalization for book and tax, and other GAAP support as needed. (10%-20%)

Perform administrative activities necessary for the effective management of the department, budget administration, organization goals and objectives and planning, organizing, integrating, measuring and reporting the work performed within the department.

Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting. Graduate degree preferred.

Certified public accountant certification.

Ten years big four or industry equivalent tax experience, including three years supervisory/management responsibilities, and including eight years in tax accounting

Strong federal, state and local income tax compliance experience.

Strong tax consolidation experience (both with financial statements and tax returns).

Strong leadership and mentoring skills.

Working knowledge of tax, accounting, fixed asset, and forecasting systems.

Mergers and acquisition and consolidated return experience.

Extensive knowledge of federal and state tax laws, tax compliance systems, regulatory and tax accounting and company operations and ability to communicate these complex concepts to others.

Knowledge of tax and GAAP research methodology.

Affiliation with national, state and industry tax associations.

Effective written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills.

Effective interpersonal skills and leadership skills.

Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
