Group Financial Reporting are responsible for delivering external reporting to meet shareholder and regulatory requirements across a number of reporting bases including IFRS, EEV and Groupwide Supervisory Regime. This role, based in Hong Kong, is to support the Group Director, Financial Reporting, who is based in London, in leading the end to end management and delivery of the IFRS 17 regional production and Group consolidation processes. The scope of the role includes a) managing the IFRS17 finance operations team who support the BUs with the production of IFRS17 results through the standardised Group solutions and b) production of the Group IFRS consolidated results within Onestream, including business unit support and stakeholder engagement and c) other activities to support the Group Director (for example communication and resolution of issues in an Asia timezone). This role includes leading a team of 10, including 2 direct reports who manage the IFRS17 production and consolidation teams on a day-to-day basis.

Job Requirements
  • Leading the teams responsible for both:
    a) Group consolidation and BU submission support and data quality review at Q1,HY, Q3 and FY
    b) IFRS17 finance operations support to business units.
    This includes managing the direct reports for these 2 sub-teams, to produce high quality and timely output for the Group's financial statements and external reporting and supporting the Group Director in the business ownership of the IFRS 17 Onestream and central regional solution systems.
  • Anticipation and prevention of issues in the reporting cycle. Working directly with BU and Group stakeholders to articulate, manage and resolve complex and technical issues. Owner of the group reporting instructions for each reporting cycle. Communicating progress and escalating issues to Group Director - Financial Reporting as needed. Consolidation and BU production issue management and resolution.
  • Responsible for building strong working relationships with BUs and group colleagues across accounting and actuarial. Leading, developing and coaching the teams. Managing stakeholders impacting the activities of the teams, for example interaction with the Finance Change team, External Reporting, Group technology.
  • Proactively identify and drive forward process efficiencies with the sub-teams as the IFRS 17 processes are further embedded into BAU. Actively engage in the Group's wider change agenda, supporting the successful implementation of changes by the Finance Change team.
  • Auditor management: key lead liaison with the Group's external auditors to oversee and effectively manage the FY/HY audit process in respect for the central solutions and end-to-end consolidation activities.
  • Policy and controls: Oversee the implementation and maintenance and enhancement of consolidation procedures to comply with internal control requirements. Actively seek to make processes more robust and efficient on an on-going basis .

Candidate Specifications:
  • Strong technical understanding of external financial reporting for insurance companies
  • Preferred to have previous experience of both a) financial reporting processes & systems under IFRS 17 and b) consolidation processes and systems (e.g. OneStream)
  • Ability to clearly communicate issues and proposed resolutions, to finance leadership team and wider stakeholders, including the Business Units
  • Ability to work in a cross functional team, and displaying strong teamwork skills to come together to resolve financial reporting, operational and technical issues (including business units, corporate technology, external reporting team, controller team and country performance management team).
  • Good service culture mentality - for supporting Group Financial Reporting's customers - both external stakeholders and internal (including BUs)
  • Practical problem solving mentality with attention to detail
  • Mentoring and Training: Lead teams to deliver the above objectives and develop the teams to enhance financial understanding and technical capabilities
  • Continuous improvement mindset. Strong focus on the forward looking agenda and anticipate issues and resolve promptly
  • Flexibility to work with a team in multi-locations - particularly with London. Second Asian language (other than English) would also be helpful.
