Job Title: Tax Advisor, Tax Advisory

Location: London

Corporate Title: VP

Group Tax's responsibility is to manage the Bank's worldwide tax position, with responsibilities ranging from advising on the tax consequences of transactions, ensuring compliance with local tax obligations, producing tax data for financial and other reporting purposes, handling tax audits and disputes, to working with industry and governmental bodies on the development of legislation and practice.

The UK and Europe Tax Advisory team play a key role in delivering Group Tax's objectives by developing and managing key relationships with businesses and other functions (notably Finance) in the region as well as working with tax colleagues within the UK and internationally.

You will report to the Regional Head of Tax Advisory and will be based in London.

Your key responsibilities
  • Build and maintain understanding of relevant business areas, transactions, products and associated tax issues
  • Review and sign off of new products, M&A activity and other transactions in line with applicable internal policies
  • Provide ad-hoc advice on matters such as transaction documentation (ISDAs, loan agreements etc), permanent establishment risk and tax residence
  • Coordinating and/or assisting as appropriate in dealing with complex correspondence from His Majesty's Revenue and Customs and other tax authorities in the region
  • Monitoring relevant changes in tax law and practice across the region and, where appropriate, assisting businesses or functions in implementing relevant requirements
Your skills and experience
  • Qualified accountant/Chartered Tax Advisor/lawyer
  • Proven experience of tax advisory work within the tax department of a professional services firm or equivalent experience within the advisory team of an in-house tax function
  • A broad base of UK corporate tax knowledge with some experience in international tax matters. Banking and/or asset management tax experience is desirable.
  • Able to communicate complex technical subject matter to a non-technical audience, both in written form and in oral discussions
  • Responsive to business and management requests and willing to take responsibility for seeing things through
  • Willing to share your knowledge and experience with others on the team on a pro-active basis
  • Keen to keep technical knowledge up to date and to expand your areas of expertise
