JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties:

  • Plans, researches, develops, and recommends financial strategies to manage the organization's debt, investment and pension fund portfolios including: reviewing and researching information on financial markets, interest rate projections, economic trends and domestic or international sources of funds; analyzing the organization's cash flow requirements and income; and analyzing factors which impact the pension fund.
  • Performs ongoing research and analysis in the use of sophisticated financial products to reduce foreign exchange risk, minimize finance charges and maximize risk-adjusted return on the pension fund and other investments.
  • Utilizes advanced computer software to develop alternative financial and investment strategies by: designing, modifying and maintaining various complex modeling and forecasting systems; and applying sophisticated analytical techniques such as scenario, sensitivity analysis, and stress testing.
  • Provides financial market and treasury expertise to the organization's operating units and subsidiaries by: responding to requests for advice, assistance or information on financial issues such as medium and long term forecasts of revenue and corresponding cash inflows, capital expenditures and operating expenses; undertaking ad hoc financial analysis projects utilizing performance and forecast modeling and other financial techniques; and publishing and maintaining Treasury information on the Intranet as it relates to financing in such areas interest rates and economic forecasts.
  • Prepares in-depth business analysis reports, presentation materials, and recommendations to senior management, the Board of Directors, and the Provincial Treasury on issues related to debt and investment management including the annual and quarterly plans for debt and investment activities; performance results of investments; and activities related to debt structuring, and forecasting the short and long term economic outlook.
  • Develops and maintains effective relations with the Provincial Treasury, banks, investment companies, and credit rating agencies to negotiate and recommend financial contracts favourable to the organization, discuss alternative financing and refinancing strategies, resolve problems and provide information and/or obtain commitments or actions.
  • Provides technical guidance, direction and/or training to lower level staff engaged in Treasury Division activities; assigns and reviews work performed to ensure quality and adherence to various regulatory, administrative and statutory reporting requirements.
  • Reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of Treasury division's policies, standards, and controls, including a wide range of activities associated with the management of the debt, investment and pension fund portfolios; drafts new policies/standards where improvements to existing practises have been identified.
  • Prepares and/or reviews financial documentation, such as debt issues and proposals from contractors, to ensure that terms and conditions are as contracted.
  • Participates in special and other studies and projects as required that do not affect the rating of the job.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or University degree in Business Administration or Commerce or in a related field of study and an advanced designation in related field such as Chartered Financial Analyst designation or equivalent; experience with strategic planning, capital markets, and application of advanced computer forecasting tools.
  • 4 years experience in the areas of financial analysis or treasury operations, preferably at a financial institution or medium to large corporation.

  • Please note this is a MoveUP Group 13 Full-Time Permanent (FTR) opportunity, based at our Dunsmuir (Vancouver) location.
  • As part of the selection process, applicants may be required to take a written test/assessment.
  • This position reports to the Assistant Treasurer, and is on the Treasury team focusing on the liability and cash/banking management portfolio.
  • The Senior Corporate Treasury Analyst performs complex financial analysis in the areas of treasury, debt and investment management; researches, develops and recommends alternative methods for implementing financial strategies and processes which have a significant impact on the organization's operations, policies and exposure to financial risk; provides support to manager in the decision making process to achieve corporate financial objectives; acts as a resource to other Key Business Units as well as Treasury Division staff.
  • This position requires the individual to be a multi-tasker, meet daily deadlines and time-sensitive requirements, and handle a high pace environment.

Ideal skills for this role include:

  • Knowledge of financial products and instruments, including banking/payment related, short-term and long-term debt, and derivatives (including mark-to-market).
  • Knowledge of and experience with managing corporate banking relationships, accounts, transactions and processes.
  • Ability to understand accounting issues related to financial activities
  • Advanced proficiency with computer software, including email, word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software. Experience with Bloomberg and treasury management software programs is an asset.
  • Detail oriented, with strong analytical skills and accuracy in work product.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and demonstrates strong initiative.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Due to time sensitive cut-off times, desired start time for this Senior Corporate Treasury Analyst role on the team would be between 7:30am - 8:00am daily.

Flexible work model role definitions

Our four role types identify the degree of flexibility an employee could have to work from home based on the type of work they do. The flexibility for an individual job is up to the manager for each position and the operational requirements. Employees also have the right to work full-time from the office if they prefer. All of our roles require at least some in-person time.

IBEW/Field – No option to work from home

Resident – Works primarily (4+ days per week) in the office.

Hybrid – May be able to work from home up to 3 days per week.

Remote – Works from home 4+ days per week
