The Opportunity
Position: Associate or Vice President, Investment Banking
Attractive opportunity for a highly motivated individual with sector expertise in investment banking, finance, or related fields to join a leading team and lend support to coverage and execution initiatives across the investment banking platform. Our Calgary based investment banking group provides corporate advisory, capital markets, restructuring, private equity and capital expertise to companies across a broad spectrum of industries, with a specialized focus on Energy, Sustainability and New Energy & Clean Technology. We are considering hiring, for the investment banking position, at either the associate or vice president level, based on the relevant experience possessed by the successful candidate.
Your Responsibilities
- The successful candidate will work alongside deal teams to support transaction structuring and execution on a variety of advisory and financing mandates in the relevant sectors
- Research and analyze clients' financial situations, industry & market data, and M&A opportunities
- Develop valuation models of private and public companies as well as merged entities
- Apply analytical tools to assess and appropriately value opportunities
- Conduct due diligence on a variety of companies, sectors and jurisdictions
- Prepare precedent transactions and comparable company analyses
- Prepare client documents and presentations
- Provide direction and feedback to Analysts, accountable for development and mentoring
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Requirements
- 3 – 5 years of relevant experience for the Associate position
- 5+ years of relevant experience for the Vice President position
- A university degree in a financial or business-oriented discipline (i.e. BComm or MBA) or a technical discipline (i.e. engineering)
- Prior experience within an investment banking or financial valuation role
- Demonstrate solid deal & transaction execution and/or project management skills
- Exceptional skills in quantitative analytics, financial modeling and credit analysis
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (with strong financial modeling skills)
- Exceptional attention to detail, plus superior writing & communication skills
- A commitment to working independently under strict time constraints that requires flexibility with respect to hours and tasks
- The ability to perform effectively in a team environment and to excel under pressure
- Understanding of business, economics and/or finance acquired through education, experience, or personal interest
