Purpose
Contributes to the overall success of the Global Banking and Markets Finance Group in Singapore ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Accountabilities
- Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
- Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
- Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
- Work closely with front office trading personnel in producing daily, weekly and monthly P&L results and analysis across multiple asset classes - Fixed Income, Money Market and FX.
- Investigate and resolve P&L discrepancies arising from incorrect booking of trades, missing deals, system errors, or valuation issues.
- Independently validate trading position valuations through Price Testing and calculate required reserves.
- Generate ad-hoc reports to satisfy various financial and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Complete the month end close process for balance sheet reconciliation and substantiation.
- Ensure compliance with internal and external audits
- Driving process and system improvements through leading and participating in various project initiatives
- Continue developing and improving the Internal Control environment through critical evaluation of current controls and processes and utilization of best practice.
- Build and continually develop relationships with key senior stakeholders including the Front Office, Local & Group Finance, Tax, Treasury, Risk Management Group, Operations & IT.
Experience/Other Information
- Minimum 8 years experience working in a Capital Markets Product Control environment.
- Knowledge of vanilla and non-vanilla trading portfolios that include derivatives and structured products whilst understanding a portfolio's risk based P&L attribution using Greek sensitivities.
- Understanding the accounting treatment under International Financial Reporting Standards for Capital Markets products and the relevant balance sheet treatment.
- Ability to develop and maintain constructive professional relationships with the Front Office and other support/control groups.
- Strong Excel skills required with VBA/programming skills a bonus.
