The Opportunity
We are looking for proactive, curious and future-minded thinkers with a keen interest in investment fund management to join us in this unique opportunity of Associate in our Private Equity team, based in either Sydney or Melbourne.
As an Associate in the Private Equity team, your role is to provide analytical and operational support in the development of the Agency’s Private Equity strategy, and the implementation, reporting and ongoing management of the Fund’s Private Equity portfolio in accordance with that strategy. Additionally, you will be required to provide support for the Agency’s total portfolio approach to support the achievement of the investment objectives of the various investment mandates managed by the Agency.
The role requires an understanding of and keen interest in private equity and in the establishment and management of a portfolio of fund commitments and co-investments in this area.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will support the Private Equity team in managing the portfolio, including handling portfolio data, analytics, and performance reporting. You’ll do this by contributing to investment papers, conducting market research, and providing input into portfolio pacing and exposure modelling. You will be involved in portfolio monitoring, meeting with private equity managers, recommending actions to optimise performance, and drafting key documents for internal decision-making.
You’ll collaborate with various internal teams, such as ESG, legal, and tax, to ensure the effective implementation and management of the Private Equity portfolio, as well as support appointees on advisory boards for the Agency’s private equity investments, protecting the Agency’s interests in these external engagements.
Finally, the role emphasises relationship-building with Private Equity managers, advisors, investors, and other strategic partners, contributing to a positive external representation of the Fund. You will also contribute to the broader Future Fund portfolio strategy, ensuring alignment between Private Equity decisions and the overall portfolio's risk and return objectives.
About You
We are seeking a candidate with a strong academic background in Finance, Economics or a related quantitative field. You should have a demonstrated interest in financial markets and investing, with relevant experience in finance, consulting, or asset management. An understanding of and interest in Private Equity investments, strategies and portfolio management as well as an interest in broader macro-economic factors and markets is required.
You should have demonstrable ability in building analytical financial models in Excel and a working understanding of financial industry databases and tools (e.g. Bloomberg, FactSet, Pitchbook and Preqin).
In addition to technical expertise, you should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to effectively engage with both internal and external stakeholders. We value intellectually curious, adaptability, and ability to navigate ambiguity while contributing positively to a team environment. Strong written and analytical skills, particularly in preparing financial models and reports, are essential.
You should have a commitment to accuracy and quality, demonstrating a meticulous approach to your work. You should be capable of balancing multiple priorities and shifting tasks as needed in a dynamic environment. A strong work ethic, a collaborative spirit, and a drive to exceed expectations are key attributes that will ensure success in this role.
Please note this opportunity is open to Australian Citizens only.
