Job Description:

The Head of Audit, Professional Practice, a member of the Audit Senior Management Team is responsible to lead Professional Practice function for the US jurisdiction, leading the end-to-end development, implementation, and ongoing execution working closely with the Canadian and Non-US Professional Practice Audit teams.

Depth & Scope:
  • Provides people management leadership by hiring the best talent, setting goals, developing staff, managing employee performance and compensation decisions, promoting teamwork and handling any/all disciplinary actions, as required
  • Leads the end-to-end development, implementation and ongoing execution of functions within the Professional Practice team for US Audit in coordination with the Canadian and Non-US Audit Professional Practice including the following teams:
    • Methodology and Strategy
    • Training and Skills Assessment
    • Stakeholder Reporting & Regulatory Management
    • Workforce Management
    • Quality Assurance & Improvement Program
    • Business Management including Audit Governance and Control / 1B
    • Data and Analytics
  • Ensures methodologies and practices are rigorous, adheres to the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) standards as well as regulatory requirements and expectations across the US jurisdiction, through implementation of leading methodologies, practices, training and other People-related programs as well as evaluation of compliance with policies and practices in coordination with the Canadian and Non-US Audit Professional Practice group
  • In coordination with the US Audit Leadership Team, oversees effective execution and implementation of Audit's strategic priorities, initiatives and transformation in the US jurisdiction
  • Promotes operational excellence amongst the various operations within US Audit
  • Designs and executes meaningful reporting of Audit results across all US stakeholders, and report into TD Bank Group (TDBG) results and reports completely, accurately and on a timely basis
  • Develops and delivers an effective Data Analytics strategy for the US audit teams in coordination with the Canadian and Non-US Audit Data & Analytics team to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of their work
  • Continually learns and innovates, informed by a strong internal and external network
  • Effectively interacts with stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Attracts, develops and retains talent and maintain an active talent pipeline
  • Leads and/or participates in workstreams related to Internal Audit's involvement in relevant Bank and Audit priorities for the US jurisdiction and in coordination with the Canadian and Non-US Professional Practice and Audit teams
  • Serves as a member of the Audit Senior Management Team (SMT) to provide valuable insights and builds strong partnerships within the SMT, as well as coordinating SMT interactions

Education & Experience:
  • Undergraduate degree required; Post Graduate degree preferred
  • Professional Accreditation such as Chartered Professional Accountant, Certified Public Accountant, Certified Regulatory Compliance Specialist or Certified Internal Auditor would be an asset
  • 15+ years related experience; Internal and/or External Audit Professional Practice and Methodology experience preferred
  • Previous experience developing and executing on strategies and delivering superior results in both the short and long term
  • Previous experience establishing or advising the establishment of a best-in-class Audit Function in a large complex global organization (Financial Services experience is beneficial) in accordance with the IIA Standards
  • Proven ability in leveraging deep subject matter expertise to align teams to a central vision, while also listening and engaging others to provide input in the shaping of that vision
  • Strong people management skills with demonstrated experience in leading high performing teams, proven ability to manage and motivate a diverse group of professionals, the ability to effectively work in teams across the bank with multiple stakeholders and to influence and align others
  • Strong collaborator who engages colleagues, business partners, external stakeholders, and employees
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills and strong interpersonal and leadership skills to facilitate working with senior management at all levels
  • Skillful communication (written and verbal), negotiation and partnership skills to balance stakeholder input but remain objective to reach the right outcome - ability to stay resilient under pressure
  • Demonstrated relationship building skills, with the ability to make things happen through the use of positive influence
  • Expertise in working effectively and collaboratively in teams- requires a track record of working cross-organizationally, across jurisdictions and with multiple stakeholders at varying levels
  • Robust organizational skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines and priorities
  • Excellent analytical skills in assessing risk, issues and challenging the status quo
  • Strong knowledge of the related regulatory environments
  • Ability to lead decisively with a risk mindset & focus on what matters for Bank
  • Ability to drive Innovation and transformation
