WHAT YOU'LL DO

Middle Office provides independent control of trading activities and is responsible for validating the trading balance sheet and ensuring the accuracy of P&L reporting. The team supports the business by providing timely and accurate information and ensuring that operational requirements are optimised. Middle Office provides the link to our (outsourced) back-office teams, and internally works closely with Trading, Risk, Compliance, Financial Control, and Management Reporting. The essence of this role requires:
  • Accountability for the execution and reporting of daily P&L though validation and ownership of the trading balance sheet, trading position valuation, in-line with policy
  • Ownership of the month end Trading ledger process, ensuring accounting in accordance with IFRS pronouncements
  • Capacity to understand and explain desk trading strategies
  • Applying your knowledge of financial products to ensure correct valuation and accounting of financial instruments
  • Be the primary escalation point for traders and other key stakeholders, both internal and external
  • Guiding and supporting junior team members
  • Identifying and initiating small projects to improve efficiencies
  • Supporting trading with ad hoc requests
  • Ensuring operational optimisation for new trading strategies

WHO YOU ARE
  • CA/CPA or equivalent; Finance or related degree
  • Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • 3+ years in Middle Office and/or Product Control, with additional experience in Financial Control and Valuation Control at a trading firm or bank
  • Strong understanding of derivative products (index and equity options, forwards and futures, warrants) and financial markets
  • Proficient in Excel (VBA and SQL skills are highly regarded), Python and Alteryx desirable
  • A control mindset and a desire to add value add
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
