Job Description

If you live in Australia or New Zealand, you've likely heard of AMP. But at a time when society is changing, we are too. We're now a nimbler business with new leadership and thinking.

For us, these are exciting times. There's a real potential for big thinkers to help us redefine what financial services could be. And turn our legacy into something even more positive and powerful for the future.

Help people create their tomorrow, while you create yours

We help people with their banking, super, retirement and finances. Through upturns, downturns, recessions, and major life transitions. Every day, we help people see and make more of their financial potential, so that they can create their tomorrow. And we've been doing it for over 170 years.

If we do our job well, we genuinely add to the prosperity of our country and its people.

The role supports the AMP Group, Corporate, Bank, and Fund/Investment entities in statutory financial reporting, regulatory reporting, and financial control support. It involves managing the general ledger, financial reporting, and financial analysis to ensure accuracy and compliance.

A key responsibility is focusing on process improvement, integration, and change. This includes working across functional business teams to influence change strategies and drive business improvements.

Additionally, the role contributes to the Reporting, Controls, and FSS Team, consistently delivering on team and wider AMP corporate objectives. This involves participating in team initiatives and supporting continuous improvement efforts

How you will make an impact
  • Manage the preparation and review of statutory and regulatory reports, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, laws, and regulations, including group consolidation and various financial entities. This includes preparing reports for the Audit Committee and Board.
  • Prepare accounting position papers and perform analysis on changes in financial reporting requirements, providing ad hoc accounting advice as needed. This involves documenting accounting procedures and policies.
  • Support financial control by managing operational accounting processes to ensure data integrity and adequate internal controls related to ledger governance. This includes planning and prioritising tasks, especially around key financial reporting periods.
  • Prepare balance sheet accounts and reconciliations, assist in monitoring liquidity and cashflow analysis, and ensure all deadlines are met timely, including accurate month-end closure and delivery of reporting deliverables.
  • Identify and implement scope and design improvements, control enhancements, and system efficiencies, maintaining a continuous improvement mindset to enhance efficiency and eliminate risks to the business.

What you will bring to the role
  • Ideally at least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in the financial services industry or a similar role.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting standards and statutory/regulatory reporting requirements relevant to the role.
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation or audit of statutory and/or regulatory financial reports.
  • Highly developed report writing and communication skills with the ability to succinctly articulate complex financial issues.
  • Extensive experience in the use of financial systems, databases, internet applications, Excel, and Word.
  • Relevant accounting, business, finance or economics degree.
  • Professional accounting qualification - CA / CPA

Attention to detail, good analytical abilities, and effective problem-solving are essential. The candidate must be organised, able to manage priorities, and meet deadlines.

Additionally, a deep understanding of finance systems, especially Excel, Access, and Word, is crucial. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, proactive, and committed to continuous improvement, fostering a sense of ownership and maintaining a customer-centric focus. Building effective business and stakeholder relationships is also key.

The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to clearly articulate complex financial issues. They must be meticulous, accurate, and possess good analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve issues efficiently.
