About the role
Reporting to the Senior Portfolio Manager, Whole Loans in Sydney, the Portfolio Manager will be an integral part of the CIM FI team and will have a key responsibility for the day-to-day management of our existing portfolio in addition to analysis and execution of new whole loan and hybrid capital transactions.
You'll have the chance to mould the shape of this portfolio, from setting up reporting and monitoring processes to managing complex deals that will drive our ROI strategy.

To excel in this role, you'll have a minimum 7+ years in securitization and strong cashflow modelling experience, with a preference for those with experience in asset-backed finance or non-bank lending.
You'll be highly numerate with advanced financial modelling skills with the ability to quickly interpret data/figures and identify key focus points of a debt investment.

Join our Challenger Investment Management Fixed Income Team as Portfolio Manager, Whole Loans
- Challenger Investment Management Fixed Income (CIM FI) is an experienced investment manager with funds under management of approx. $16.5 billion.
- CIM FI manages funds across a range of public and private credit across debt capital markets, loan markets, asset backed securities as well as alternative debt markets. All investments are made on a relative value basis across the various fixed income asset classes to achieve the optimal risk-adjusted return for investors.
- A role where you will play an integral part of financing whole loan portfolios originated by a range of banks and non-bank lenders.
- The role will provide for flexible working arrangements based out of Challenger offices in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane CBD
About the role

You'll have the chance to mould the shape of this portfolio, from setting up reporting and monitoring processes to managing complex deals that will drive our ROI strategy.
Some key responsibilities will include (but aren't limited to):
- Investment Management: review and analysis of prospective deals including preparation of term sheets, drafting of investment papers, conducting due diligence alongside our internal credit team, collateral analysis and cash flow modelling, coordination of external and internal legal counsel and presentation of opportunities to investment committees.
- Portfolio Management: reporting on and monitoring existing deals, updating cash flow modelling for both valuation and investment process, maintaining an ongoing dialogue with originators, oversee deal pipeline to ensure pipeline is up to date; and
- Operational & Compliance: working closely with analysts and operations division to ensure the correct allocation of funding across various facilities, liaising with finance and accounting teams to ensure portfolios are correctly reporting on in our financial accounts, alongside our compliance ensuring that all processes are mapped out and represented in policy documents.
The skills you'll need.

- Understanding of residential mortgage and consumer loan assets and securitisation liabilities required;
- Relevant tertiary qualification in finance or a related discipline;
- CFA qualified highly desirable;
- Proven experience in managing deal pipelines, due diligence work streams, loan settlements, and reporting requirements;
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage your own tasks effectively;
- Familiarity with corporate regulatory environments, governance principles, and risk management within an investment management context;
- Strong commercial awareness and decision-making skills.
