What's the job all about?
The Portfolio Manager is a key player in the financial landscape of the firm, tasked with the meticulous management of client portfolios. This role demands a seamless integration with the Investment Management Team, active participation in committees, and a consistent pulse on market developments to inform strategic decisions. The Portfolio Manager collaborates closely with senior portfolio managers and Chief Investment Officers (CIOs), contributing to the formulation and documentation of investment strategies and processes. As experience accrues, the Portfolio Manager is expected to expand their role in client engagement and thought leadership within the industry.
The essential functions of the role include, but are not limited to the following:
- Conduct daily management of client portfolios, ensuring that each portfolio is aligned with the clients' investment goals and risk profiles.
- Provide research support to Senior Portfolio Managers, focusing on developing and enhancing credit analysis skills for various sectors and providing valuable insights for the Credit Committee, alongside its co-chairs and senior members.
- Engage actively in Portfolio Management committees, contributing to the discussions and decision-making processes that drive the firm's investment strategies.
- Keep abreast of financial market trends and developments to make informed decisions that reflect the current economic environment.
- Facilitate open discussions within the Investment Management Team to encourage the exchange of ideas and collaborative problem-solving.
- Create comprehensive documentation for investment strategies and operational procedures to maintain a consistent approach to portfolio management.
- Collaborate with the Marketing department to analyze new business Requests for Proposals (RFPs), ensuring that portfolio management perspectives are well-represented.
- Produce in-depth "white papers" on relevant investment topics and deliver oral presentations under the guidance of the Chief Investment Officers (CIOs).
- Represent the firm at industry conferences, serving as a knowledgeable and professional point of contact for current trends and firm capabilities.
This Team Member will have:
- Educational Requirements: A Bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics, or a related field, along with a CFA designation required.
- Industry Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in the asset management industry, with a focus on fixed income portfolios.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Excel, database management, and Bloomberg.
- Skills & Knowledge: A solid understanding of financial markets, the asset management business and its processes.
- Market Understanding: A track record of successfully managing fixed income portfolios and the capability to engage effectively with clients.
- Communication Skills: The ability to collaborate efficiently in team settings and work cross-departmentally is necessary.
- Additional Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience with risk management and strategic planning within the asset management sector.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing market conditions and regulatory environments.
- Leadership experience, with the capacity to mentor junior staff and lead by example.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate investment opportunities and market risks.
