The Investments team is responsible for managing the Foundation’s $8.5 billion investment portfolio. The capital is managed within a globally diversified, multi asset class portfolio with the objective of earning a 5% real return annually. This portfolio is the source of funds for the Foundation’s grant making activity and other organizational expenses.
The Investment Department is in the process of onboarding a new investment platform: Dynamo Software. Experience with a widely-used investment portfolio management and data reporting tool such as Dynamo, Blackrock Aladdin/eFront, Bloomberg, Solovis, Caissa/Burgiss, and/or FactSet to measure the performance and risk of portfolios and to assist with the monitoring of current and prospective investments is required, although Dynamo-specific experience is not.
The Senior Analyst, Data, Performance and Operations is responsible for supporting the Investment Department’s data management infrastructure. This person will report to the Manager, Quantitative Analysis and Risk Management with frequent interaction with the Chief Investment Officer. They will provide support for the operational and analytical functions of the Investment Office and will serve as a liaison to internal partners, such as our Finance Department, as well as external partners, such as our custodian and derivative overlay manager.
The Senior Analyst will work to strengthen financial processes, procedures, and controls to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Foundation’s investment activities while reducing risk and increasing operational transparency. They will work in partnership with the investment team and will organize data related to investment transactions and valuations for managers and asset classes, as well as integrate related data and knowledge with our custodian and derivative overlay manager. This person will have some familiarity with the methods of investment performance, calculation, and reporting of public and private investments and have the ability to learn and experiment with tech platforms and data systems to capture information, illustrate investment workflow, dimension portfolio strategy, as well as provide relevant comparisons.
Job Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Implement and develop an architecture to support our diverse and complex set of investment portfolios and strategies

Assist with migrating and reconciling our CRM data, partnership/hedge fund transaction and valuation data, and portfolio return and risk data with Dynamo’s toolset

Refine and implement workflow, processes, and systems to help build organizational infrastructure, including data loading, set-up, modeling, analysis, and troubleshooting

Design and test solutions that will meet our internal needs and grow the Dynamo ecosystem

Leverage Dynamo technology platforms, templates, and tools to enhance operational efficiency, information and data management, and reporting capabilities

Utilize data insights to support informed decision making.

Perform work as a technical/functional expert with minimal direction

Prepare verbal and written presentations as requested

May perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:

An undergraduate degree in Computer Science / Information Technology, Economics, or Finance

A minimum of 3-7 years of investment management industry and/or information technology experience including aspects of investment operations, finance, and/or data management within a relevant buy-side organization, including family offices, endowments, foundations, hedge funds, asset managers, banks, and consulting firms

Strong mathematical and analytical skills with respect to software systems and implementation relevant to investments, data, and risk management

Advanced experience with Excel required. Experience with Microsoft Power Query and PowerBI preferred

Experience with VBA, SQL, R, Python, or other language(s) preferred as is familiarity with external APIs

Competence, creativity, and ingenuity with elements that intersect finance and technology

Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate data and minimize errors, while also having the ability to see the organizational goals and take action to achieve them

Ability to learn and effectively use various software programs used by the Investment Department

Ability to function effectively as a team member and work independently as needed

Thorough professionalism in all technical and non-technical aspects of the position

Ability to prioritize and meet work deadlines consistently
The position is currently hybrid and based in Chicago, Illinois.
Annual starting salary for this role will start at $100,000. This position is also eligible for an incentive bonus of up to 70% of the base salary.
