This is a leadership position within Corporate Controllers organization and supports both Property & Casualty and Group Benefits products. The position is responsible for overseeing the reconciliations of cash control accounts and accounting systems. The position is also responsible for ensuring all account and system reconciliations meet department standards including the management of data, accounting files and management reporting.

This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in the Hartford, CT office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

The responsibilities of this position include:
  • Oversee daily financial balancing and reconciliation processes ensuring cash is correctly applied in the financial system of record (Tabs, Pacer, Prevail, RAD, CCPS/BLC, Wins, RMB, Solar, LP, LTU, etc.)
  • Oversee monthly financial balancing and system reconciliation processes ensuring all premium, claim, billing, and payment issuing systems correctly interface to the enterprise general ledger.
  • Oversee a team of staff and senior accountants who complete daily and monthly reconciliation processes for both balance sheet accounts and financial system reconciliations.
  • Developing strong partnership with various business partners and IT organizations to establish new processes and communication channels to resolve reconciling differences.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments of financial balancing processes and controls.
  • Partner with internal and external business partners to ensure compliance with department standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Report the reconciliation results with summary level explanations of differences to our business partners and Finance management.
  • Develop and maintain a book of knowledge over The Hartford's internal financial systems, accounting process flow and business environment.
  • Manage projects affecting the financial systems which currently include the migration from BACIS to TMS; implementation of the Gyroscope claim system and Beam premium system, and the re-write of CCPS.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

Our ideal candidate will possess:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, CPA or MBA a plus.
  • General understanding of P&C and/or Group Benefit Claims, Premium Billing and Commissions, TPA arrangements or Banking arrangements is a plus.
  • Leadership skills to encourage new ways of looking at problems, process and solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple high priority items.
  • Demonstrate ability to apply critical thinking, analytical and quantitative skills to highly technical and complex issues.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work independently, but also to contribute as part of a team.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills.
  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with other Finance, IT and Operations Teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Products with expert MS Excel skills.
  • Knowledge with query tools such as Business Objects, TOAD or other propriety tools is helpful.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$96,400 - $144,600
