How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Determine full indirect tax implications of any new initiatives undertaken by the business or the organisation, inlcuding structural and organisational changes. Where appropriate, input to effective tax cost management advice thereon.
  • Communicate such implications to stakeholders, ensuring these are understood. Where required, act as subject matter expert to any subsequent business or compliance process changes implemented to support such implications.
  • Develop understanding of the company's existing indirect tax positions at both a practical and legislative level, and articulate these as appropriate to the tax authorities, either during audit, or pre-emptively.
  • Assist in the management of tax authority and other audits/disputes with tax authorities, including any associated litigation, and managing the third-party relationships that litigation necessitates.
  • Understand the existing VAT landscape within EMEA, including proactive monitoring of case law/prospective legislation changes and determine whether the indirect tax positions taken by the company remain appropriate as this landscape changes. Communicate changes to the risk profile of the company and/or opportunities to Leadership.
  • Support Indirect Tax Director in identification of VAT risks and opportunites.
  • Assist Tax Leadership to input to Indirect Tax lobbying via various channels and networking events.
  • Be the day to day Indirect Tax Subject Matter Expert on wider EMEA regulatory projects linked to Indirect Taxes e.g. e-invoicing requirements in new territories, regulatory reporting to Tax Authorities.
  • Ensure channels of communication are open to the Compliance team, so any decisioning percolates through to the VAT return procedures.
  • Proactively work together with the corporate tax/transfer pricing teams and other Indirect Tax colleagues in other regions to ensure effective and smooth business knowledge sharing to mitigate wider Tax risks, and that all inter-company relationships are understood and appropriately treated from an indirect tax perspective.
  • Work closely with the Tax Accounting team and local/regional finance teams to ensure VAT exposures are properly accounted for and communicated.
  • Assist Tax colleagues in reporting Indirect Tax exposures/developments to the Company's Leadership teams/Board meetings as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Significant years of high quality, impactful post-qualifications indirect tax experience gained in a reputable professional environment and/or large multinational corporate environment.
  • Proven multi-jurisdictional understanding of UK and EU indirect tax rules and emerging legislation across the EMEA region.
  • A relevant professional qualification (i.e. accounting, tax or legal).
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills; can synch analysis into solutions and impact. Able to interpret data to refine/quantify potential risk scenarios clearly.
  • Clear communications skills, including proven ability to distill and explain highly technical issues to a diverse audience.
  • Proven relationship builder across functions, levels and world zones; exudes a true, collaborative orientation.
