Job Description

We're recruiting for a Head of Tax Oversight to join our Retail function. The role is designed to lead the team which ensures that the L&G Retail business complies with operational and product tax obligations across all products and services offered. What you'll be doing:
  • Guide the creation and implementation of tax compliance procedures to align with the Group Tax Strategy and legal mandates, ensuring the Retail business adheres to all tax obligations
  • Monitor the tax compliance procedures implemented throughout the Retail sector to verify that they demonstrate control over all operational and product-related tax obligations
  • Ensure that all operational and product tax obligations are fully understood and adhered to by all personnel across impacted areas in Retail
  • Manage key tax risks relating to Retail and ensure that they are controlled via a governance framework; notify Group Tax of any breaches that may require disclosure to HMRC
  • Leading, oversee, and manage issues referred from the Retail business or Group Tax and, where appropriate, ensure the implementation of recommendations to optimise tax compliance
  • Maintain good technical knowledge of tax legislation that may impact Retail by working closely with the central Group Tax team and seeking their guidance where any areas of uncertainty exist in interpretation of HMRC guidance /regulations
  • Ensure that all products / propositions offered by Retail perform as expected from an operational tax perspective to meet the needs, characteristics, and objectives of customers in the target market and deliver good customer outcomes
  • Manage the team in alignment with the Company's policies and procedures, as well as the Partnership Agreement, to ensure the team's business objectives are consistently met

Additional Information
  • Professional qualifications from bodies such as Chartered Insurance Institute or CFA UK, in relation to the role are desirable
  • Understanding of the financial services environment and regulatory business requirements
  • Obtains and interprets appropriate factual data to assist in decision-making
  • Proven experience of being able to communicate technical issues in a clear, simple manner to a wide audience
  • Works with and provides guidance and support to other teams
  • Prioritisation, planning and organisation of multi task/person assignments
  • Ability to anticipate problems/omissions and consider potential ways to mitigate them
