Description

Climate action is at the core of IFC's business. In fiscal year 2023, IFC delivered 46% in own-account climate finance and mobilized an additional $6.8 billion. The World Bank Climate Change Action Plan (2021 - 2025) outlines the institution's collective response to align financial flows with the goals of the Paris Agreement (referred to as "Paris Alignment" or "PA"). Under the Action Plan, IFC has committed to align 85% of new operations with the goals of Paris Agreement by July 1, 2023, and 100% of these by July 1, 2025, and to achieve at least 35% of its investments in climate positive activities.

IFC's Climate Business Department (CBD) works across the organization and beyond to implement the Climate Change Action Plan and deliver on Paris Alignment. To deliver on its priorities, CBD's Climate Capacity & Inclusion Accelerator (CBDCI) team engages with staff, clients and partners to raise global and internal knowledge and capacity to unlock private investment around select thematic including sustainable finance (Green Bonds, Sustainability Bonds, Sustainability-linked finance, Transition Finance, etc.); Biodiversity and Nature Finance; and circular economy (business models that reduce the use of virgin materials, maximize the use and retained value of materials along the production and consumption value chain, and reduce waste and pollution).

CBDCI is seeking an Operations Officer to support business creation and market transition under the Sustainable Finance Capacity Building agendas. The position will be based in Washington DC and will report to the CBDCI Global Head under the direct supervision of the Thematic Leads.

Duties and Accountabilities

The Sustainable Finance Capacity Officer will be a core member of the CBDCI team. The staff will work closely with the team leader, IFC colleagues across industries and regions and external partners to:

Actively contribute to IFC internal and external sustainable finance in person and online executive trainings.

• Moderate technical sessions, develop agenda and training materials.
• Actively participate as faculty in the training by taking a leading role in team workshops.

Lead program reporting.

• Monitor and analyze key indicators of capacity building performance and produce a comprehensive report.
• Ensure quality and timely delivery of the annual and semi-annual donor reports to major donors as well as the IFC Project Supervision Report.
• Develop donor presentations for meetings and support coordination.

Support development, delivery and training of flagship knowledge initiative such as on biodiversity, impact reporting and sustainable SME finance.

• Oversee the development and publication of key industry guidance and protocol documents, coordinate with respective teams and external partners where relevant.
• Conduct selective market research related to green, social, and sustainability bonds, and provide analysis/findings.
• Work with IFC investment teams to support clients' queries and capacity building.
• Contribute to thought leadership program pipeline and future strategic activities that support sustainable finance in emerging markets.

Contribute to Climate Business Department activities, events and other tasks as needed it such as:

• Contribute and lead technical research and development of user-friendly resources for IFC investment teams.
• Support preparation for key global events (e.g. New York Climate Week, World Bank-IMF Annual Meetings, COPs) including contributing to the design of events, creating event briefs, talking points, and any related tasks that emerge.
• Collaborate with CBD's event and relevant industry staff to hold events both internally and externally, including creating agendas, run of shows, coordinating with speakers, creating PowerPoints, reviewing and sending invitations, and drafting summaries of events.
• In collaboration with CBD's knowledge management team, contribute to the maintenance and expansion of the internet and intranet page for sustainable finance to disseminate knowledge products to internal and external stakeholders.
• Provide quality inputs on knowledge sharing material, thematic briefings, talking points, speeches, PowerPoints and analytical/strategic documents.
• Support team leads with procurement related activities, including identification of relevant consulting firms or vendors, coordinate closely with the procurement team to create, maintain and close contracts, and be the point of contact with vendors for contracting related queries.

Selection Criteria

The staff is expected to perform fully professional level analyses on issues and to contributes to key sustainable finance deliverables including reports, strategic implementation, and client interaction. Work will be performed under limited supervision at most states.

Minimum Requirements:

• Master's degree in fields such as economics, public policy or business preferred, and a minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in sustainable finance in public and/or private sector.
• Experience in working for a capacity building program with development banks or multilateral organizations in designing/implementing trainings would be a plus.
• Proven outstanding time and project management with excellent analytical, research, writing, communications, and critical thinking skills.
• Experience in delivering high-quality PowerPoint presentations in sustainable finance topics and providing comprehensive financial analysis, in research and delivery of comprehensive findings.
• Ability to engage and initiate across functional and sectoral boundaries to identify problems and propose/articulate common solutions to thematic challenges.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills. Dedicated, collaborative, but also can take ownership of the task and work independently.
• Proficiency in multiple languages and excellent referrals are a plus.
