Job Description

The trading coordinator provides timely and accurate verification, analysis and reporting of physical and financial natural gas transaction data, calculates profit and loss on optimization and hedging activities, prepares or assists in preparing regulatory filings, assists in preparation of annual departmental budgets and financial plans and performs ad hoc financial and strategic analysis in support of departmental objectives and activities. The trading coordinator also assists portfolio analysts and transportation representatives by developing and maintaining position tracking and other operational reports; assisting in completion of incentive gas supply procurement program calculations and filings; conducting market research related to interstate pipeline issues, natural gas markets and trading strategies; and assisting as necessary with end-of-day transactions, daily winter supply portfolio optimization, and other daily natural gas transaction and scheduling activities as directed.

Responsibilities

Ensure timely and accurate verification and reporting of transaction activity and calculation of profit and loss for all optimization and hedging strategies. Ensure that purchases and sales are allocated to appropriate optimization strategies using information from gas management systems and daily trading logs, perform timely and accurate delivered cost calculations, report results to general accounting, reconcile calculations to accounting estimates and prepare timely and accurate reports for department personnel and management. (30-35%)

Develop and maintain reports tracking commodity pricing, supply and trading positions, business practices and regulatory filings. Prepare and distribute timely and accurate daily reports of hedging, optimization and natural gas supply activities, weekly reports of actual results for regulated natural gas optimization activity and weekly margin projections for regulated natural gas optimization activity. (20-25%)

Prepare or assist in preparation of schedules required for periodic financial reports, regulatory filings, audits, budget and 10-year plan submissions, and internal or external data requests concerning departmental activity. (15-20%)

Research market data, assist in analysis of current and potential trading strategies, review interstate pipeline tariffs, monitor and respond to interstate pipeline bulletin boards, perform additional analysis including, but not limited to, data queries, report development, and preparation of summary charts, pivot tables, graphs, PowerPoint presentations, or memorandums. (15-20%)

Assist as necessary with daily natural gas transaction and scheduling activities and develop sufficient familiarity and proficiency in these areas to perform key functions or activities as directed in a back-up capacity. (15-20%)

Perform any additional responsibilities and assist with special projects as requested or assigned. (0-5%)

Demonstration of knowledge and understanding of human performance improvement techniques.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, accounting, finance or equivalent related work experience in comparable field. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)

Three years of prior work experience, including at least one year of natural gas or other energy industry experience, in the area of business, finance, accounting, engineering, or a related field.

Five or more years of prior work experience, including at least one year of natural gas or other energy industry experience, in the area of business, finance, accounting, engineering, or a related field for the senior role.

Natural gas industry experience preferred.

Advanced software skills to develop and use spreadsheets, documents, databases and reports using various applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and transaction management systems.

Effective problem-solving, decision-making and analytical skills to evaluate transaction, metering and delivery data; interpret contracts, agreements and tariffs and quickly and accurately interpret complex data to identify significant patterns, relationships and trends.

Effective oral and written communications skills, including presentation skills. Effective interpersonal skills and leadership abilities; ability to work independently and as part of a team. Organizational skills to collect, review and report trading data accurately and on a timely basis. Project management skills to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks and projects concurrently, with minimal supervision, to meet targeted time frames.
