About the role
This newly created position will be a key member of the Business Development and Marketing team, responsible for assisting in the marketing, business development and client support functions for Symetra Investment Management (SIM). As described below, SIM currently has two large, affiliated clients, but is new to the third-party institutional investment management market. This position will become familiar with SIM’s investment teams, strategies historical performance and portfolio construction, and will assist in the creation and implementation of SIM’s business development strategy, incorporating competitive trends and areas of growth, related marketing materials, as well as client service as the client base grows. The successful candidate must be a credible representative of SIM, being a thoughtful creator and presenter of material with good understanding of SIM’s strategies, culture, team approach, performance and attribution. This position will report to the Head of Business Development and Marketing. A highly collaborative team player is required to effectively work with other SIM team members as well as partnering with current and future clients to understand needs and discuss potential solutions.

What you will do
- Assist with all aspects of business development, marketing and client support for SIM.
- Assist in the implementation of a comprehensive business development and marketing strategy to substantially raise awareness of SIM’s capabilities and profitably grow third-party AUMs.
- Attend conferences and arrange meetings to broaden awareness of SIM’s capabilities.
- Partner with Head of Business Development and Marketing and investment teams to discuss investment and marketing strategies, develop and update marketing materials, assist in potential new product development, and keep investment management team up to date on institutional market trends.
- Assist with building and maintaining all marketing material.
- Partner with legal and compliance to ensure marketing materials and communications are consistent with internal and external requirements, policies and procedures.
- Effectively represent and advocate to potential and current clients for SIM’s culture of fundamental, long-term results focus, integrity and collaboration.
- Utilize prospecting tools, like Fin|Searches and Dakota Marketplace, maintain awareness of relevant search activities and industry trends, and assist the Head of Business Development and Marketing with setting up meetings.
- Utilize eVestment Alliance as a key competitive and industry trend research tool and assist in the initial onboarding and ongoing maintenance of SIM investment strategies on the database.
- Utilize Salesforce to track prospect and client activities.
Who you are
- BA/BS in finance or business.
- CFA or MBA a plus but not required.
- Interest in becoming a CFA Charterholder.
- At least 5 years of overall experience in marketing and business development roles at investment management firms with strong fixed income capabilities and a proven track record of success assisting in successful capital raising.
- Strong communication, listening, organizational and presentation skills.
- Team player looking to partner with others to produce optimal outcomes.
- Good analytical skills and fixed income/portfolio management investment knowledge to understand and communicate client needs, investment strategies, results and a range of possible solutions.
- Experience coordinating the creation and implementation of business development and marketing strategies and collateral that result in new clients and expanding relationships.
- Experience with Fin|Searches, Dakota, S&P Money Market Directory, Salesforce, eVestment Alliance and other industry data providers.
- Strong Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel skills
