The Legal Division
The Goldman Sachs Legal Division spans offices across 37 cities worldwide, from which we provide counsel and advice to support the global activities of the firm and our clients. Our focus is on providing the highest quality legal advice while managing regulatory and reputational risk. Whether you are an experienced lawyer or have other relevant experience combined with an interest in financial law and strong critical thinking skills, our team might be right for you.
As a Division we are focussed on our people and their development and are committed to creating an environment that is diverse and inclusive. We offer numerous training and career development opportunities including a weekly legal training programme, Division mentoring schemes and a people development committee tasked with providing tangible tools to help manage and develop careers. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, proactive and resilient candidate, who is interested in a technically challenging and rewarding advisory role. The role requires the ability to work independently from day one and to manage a diverse and complex workload advising on a range of issues including new product and service offerings, implementation of new regulations and specific client situations. More specifically, the role responsibilities include:
  • Advising PWM and Marcus on all aspects of the client relationship from pitches through to structuring of accounts and account opening procedures, negotiation of account documentation and investment restrictions, and support on client or transaction-specific questions.
  • Advising PWM and Marcus on a variety of business issues, including new business initiatives, impact of regulation on new and existing business, and changes to existing product and service offerings.
  • Advising on a wide range of regulatory topics across the UK and EU, such as interpretation of new and existing regulations and assessment of the impact of regulations to our business activities, advising on complex cross-border questions, and assisting with the identification of new regulations that may impact the PWM and/or Marcus businesses.
  • Advising product specialists in PWM and Marcus on all aspects of product development and documentation.
  • Liaising with other lawyers in the Goldman Sachs Legal Division globally.
  • Liaising with outside counsel on a broad range of domestic and cross-border jurisdictional issues.
We are targeting qualified lawyers in the 2-4 years PQE range (ideally with experience in asset management, regulation, retail banking or private wealth). Candidates are expected to have relevant post-qualification experience either with a reputable law firm or as in-house counsel. Knowledge of a major European language would be useful.
