Role Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cross-Functional SRE Database Reliability Engineer to join our team. This role is pivotal in supporting project work during AWS migration, providing post-migration database support, driving continuous improvements, and reducing toil in our BAU operations. The ideal candidate will be an expert in DocumentDB(MongoDB) , Amazon Aurora with PostgreSQL, and RDS, with additional skills in Snowflake and Oracle DB being highly desirable. Flexibility to work in any of the three shifts is required to ensure 24/7 support.

Key Responsibilities

During Cloud Migration Support:
  • Collaborate during the cloud migration team to ensure smooth transition of databases to AWS.
  • Provide expert advice and hands-on support for databases such as DocumentDB , Amazon Aurora (PostgreSQL), and RDS.
  • Assist in database design during migration to ensure scalability, performance, and reliability in the AWS environment.
  • Assist delivery teams in overcoming technical challenges during the migration process.
  • Help Solution team in building the pipeline for IAC.
Post-Migration Database Support:
  • Manage highly available and scalable DB environments across our Post Trade Service.
  • Ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of databases post cloud migration.
  • Monitor database systems, troubleshoot issues, and perform root cause analysis.
  • Provide ongoing support and maintenance for BAU operations.
  • Learn and provide support in other database platforms such as Oracle and MSSQL
  • Develop and implement best practices for DB administration, including monitoring, backup and recovery, security, and performance tuning in Cloud technology.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize database performance and reliability.
  • Develop/implement monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively identify and address DB issues.
  • Provide guidance and expertise in AWS services to optimize the overall cloud infrastructure supporting the DB environment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute capacity management, disaster recovery, and business continuity strategies for DB.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to DB and AWS, and recommend innovative SRE practice to enhance performance and reliability.
  • Function as primary point-of-contact (PoC) on all cloud infrastructure & database related issues.
  • Specialize in systems (Database, operating systems, storage subsystems, networking), while implementing best practices for availability, reliability, and scalability.
  • Automate database deployments and operations using DevOps tools such as Terraform, GitLab, and Ansible.
  • Conduct performance tuning and optimization activities to improve database efficiency.
  • Knowledge of defining and monitoring system quality measures, including SLO and SLA.
  • Maintain project and operational workload statistics.
  • Provide a solid foundation for building and maintaining successful SRE functions.
  • Be the driving force behind our Automation and Observability initiatives.
  • Train and mentor, our Application Management teams on DB & Infrastructure related Issues.
  • Build and maintain operational tools for deployment, monitoring, and analysis of AWS infrastructure.
  • Embed into SRE projects and on-call rotations to keep your skills sharp and stay close to the operational workflows and issues.
  • Build monitoring that alerts on symptoms rather than on outages.
Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify opportunities to reduce toil and improve efficiency in database operations.
  • Implement automation and tooling to enhance database reliability and performance.
  • Develop and maintain documentation and best practices for database management.
Shift Flexibility:
  • Comfortable working in any of the three shifts (day, evening, night) to provide 24/7 support.
  • Ensure seamless handover and communication between shifts.
Candidate Profile / Key Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Strong experience as a Site Reliability Engineer, focusing on managing and optimizing DB environments.
  • Proficiency in database technologies such as DocumentDB, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL.
  • Proficiency in SQL and database query optimization techniques.
  • Preferably DB certification on database platforms especially on DocumentDB and Postgres.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with AWS services, particularly in managing infrastructure in AWS.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Strong scripting and automation skills (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) for managing and monitoring the DB environment.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce toil and improve efficiency in database operations.
  • Implement automation and tooling to enhance database reliability and performance.
  • Develop and maintain documentation and best practices for database management.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to quickly identify and resolve complex issues.
  • Previous Financial industry experience is a plus.
  • Exposure to DevOps.
  • Experience of using and implementing IT vendor products such as DataDog, Moosoft, Atlassian tool suite, Salesforce, ServiceNow.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and to function successfully under pressure.
  • Ability to work alone on projects and deliver with minimum supervision where required.
  • Maintain good working relationships with stakeholders from within and external to the business.
  • Persuasive communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Have an enthusiastic, go-for-it attitudes. When you see something broken, work on a solution to fix it.
