Purpose

Contributes to the overall success of the Financial Reporting team in Singapore ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.
Accountabilities
  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank's Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Financial Reporting
  • Responsible for entries in Peoplesoft General Ledger and ensure timely and accurate month-end and quarter-end closing.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate preparation of regulatory reports.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate preparation and attestation to BNS Singapore Branch's monthly management information, with investigation and commentary on P&L and Balance Sheet variances.
  • Demonstrates strong understanding of revenue and expenses drivers to provide timely and accurate MIS to support business units' activities.
  • Analysis and reconcile of GST Accounts for the Singapore entities monthly; ensure that booking is correctly recorded in the book. Responsible for timely and accurate preparation of GST returns for Singapore entities quarterly.
  • Maintenance of the BM+ general ledger system. This includes setting up new general ledger accounts when required.
  • Assist in department's ad-hoc projects implementation and departmental matters when required.
  • Contribute to the ongoing review and assessment of Finance EUC files and provide inputs to new initiative requests impacting Finance.
  • Ensure key process documentation is kept and timely updated.
  • Provides support to the department by:
    • Maintains a sound knowledge of all approved operating/accounting procedures of BNS and ensuring compliance thereof;
    • Maintains a sound knowledge of local taxes and ensuring correct application thereof;
    • Identifies and contributes to the implementation of changes in the department to meet Bank / local regulations and / or increase efficiency / accuracy of workflows;
    • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of procedures and strong controls to ensure financial records/submissions internally and externally are accurate and timely (e.g GL maintenance, MAS/IRAS and MTB submission to Head Office).
  • Support any other regulatory or financial reporting related responsibilities for APAC countries as required.

Projects
  • Participate and contribute to various initiatives impacting Finance - e.g. GL or source system implementation.
  • Support and contribute to closures of all external audit and internal audit issues and matters regarding Finance
  • Work closely with manager to identify process improvement opportunities and contribute to the achievement of Target Operating Model

Experience/Other Information
  • Degree in Accounting/Finance
  • CPA qualification
  • More than 2 years of working experience in the banking sector with strong academic background focusing on business management reporting area
  • Candidates with experience in auditing banks from Big 4 accounting firm will also be considered
  • Good problem-solving skills and strong communication skills with key stakeholders (Business, Senior Management, Regional Finance)
  • Proficient in MS Office (e.g. Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and VBA
  • Independent, well-organised, self-motivated and a team player
