Summary of Role

The Head of Malaysia will be responsible for innovating, developing and executing the company's strategy for Malaysia market, with some oversight of teams in Thailand and Indonesia. The role will work in conjunction with the Country Lead for ASEAN & Greater China.

The role will have P&L responsibility for Malaysia commercial activities and will drive transformation based on a well-conceived vision and position the business for value creation, increased market share, and long-term growth.

The Head of Malaysia must be a seasoned Technology Services Executive with a depth of experience leading local or regional autonomous businesses within a highly matrixed technology-led environment. The individual will have an exceptional growth track record. In addition to managing the core business in Malaysia, the role will build and develop Cognizant's capabilities and partner with vertical-industry leadership to bring differentiated solutions to Cognizant's customers.

The ASEAN region is a key growth region for Cognizant and is expected to grow significantly over the next 2-3 years, aiming to become one of the major success stories in Cognizant's ambitious international expansion.

Role Responsibilities
  • Strong and inclusive people leader who can develop and grow the existing Malaysia business, whilst respecting the existing team-based culture
  • P&L responsibility, responsible for the cohesion of all functions across the business. Ultimately, this person will be measured on commercial growth. The expectation is to grow organically double-digit YoY.
  • Drive revenue growth with intensity and focus, adjusting offerings, leveraging technology and establishing a go-to-market plan to meet market requirements and challenges in an increasingly complex environment.
  • The ASEAN market has a host of smaller digital transformation-focused IT firms and Cognizant has the appetite to potentially explore value-add acquisitions. The leader will drive this activity, shaping an inorganic growth strategy, leading due diligence, and be responsible for the post-merger integration and successful cohesion of acquired businesses.
  • The individual will be well networked in the Malaysia market and plugged-in at the C-suite and board room of top Malaysia headquartered businesses. Will bring with them a network, which extends beyond the CIO role of Malaysia businesses.
  • The individual will be responsible for shaping and executing a vision for Cognizant's business in Malaysia; and will have a view of where the technology market is going and will understand how technology impacts an organization beyond the CIO's remit.
  • In addition, the individual will have intimate knowledge of Malaysia customers' most pressing needs and be able to shape a local go to market strategy and vision which will position Cognizant as a leader.
  • Prioritize success factors for the business unit moving forward, align the organization behind those drivers of success and galvanize leaders to accomplish the company's goals.
  • Shift the positioning of Cognizant with key client stakeholders from focusing primarily on providing traditional IT services to offering a full digital suite of offerings.
  • Place a premium on senior-level customer relationships, demonstrating clear commercial orientation and a commitment to generating growth and value for both the company and client organizations by recognizing and accordingly addressing critical client needs.
  • Provide strong operational leadership and create the most efficient and effective organizational structure and disciplined operational process for the business. Quickly assess current talent within the organization and develop a high-performing team that is well-aligned with the business strategy moving forward.
  • Effectively energize the organization, consistently communicating, educating and motivating staff and the market on the company's value proposition and trajectory.
  • Provide leadership around net new business creation, including budgets, timelines, competitive analysis and strategy and successfully deliver services into a competitive market.
  • Embed a culture of client focus, collaboration, and transparency to reinforce an innovative and performance-driven work environment with a high level of accountability.
  • Partner closely with other senior leaders within Cognizant and engage in ongoing discussion that will drive success in competitive positioning, market awareness, and customer retention across APAC.
  • The role may include additional APAC level responsibilities such as industry or competency leadership.
Experience & Skills
  • P&L Scale: The individual will have previously managed a P&L of suitable scale in terms of both revenue and number of employees.
  • Malaysia/ASEAN Network: The individual will have a track record of operating at the highest levels (C-Suite/Board Level) of Malaysia headquartered businesses. Network in countries like Thailand and Indonesia will be a plus
  • Breadth of Offerings: Strong breadth of experience managing divisions across multiple functions and verticals. The individual will not be wedded to one sector (i.e., banking) or one solution (i.e., infrastructure).
  • Growth Orientation: Career trajectory that includes significant sales leadership and a track record of growth. Will be able to draw on tangible examples of where the individual has transformed an organization or its go to market strategy in order to drive more efficient growth.
  • Leadership / General Management: The individual will understand how to lead and drive impactful change within a complex matrix of scale. Ideally this individual will have previous experience leading an autonomous business unit or region.
