The opportunity:

Member of the Financial Control team help to ensure that team deliverables are met in a timely fashion on an ongoing basis. Pro-active management of areas of responsibility with regard to maintenance and reconciliation of the general ledger, and internal and external financial reporting as well as ongoing process improvement and documentation. This role is primarily responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of accounting records and compliance with accounting standards, as well as monthly management, group and annual statutory reporting for the financial advice entity of AIAA.

To do this successfully you will:
  • Performs month end close processes in relation to specified areas of responsibility within required timeframes. This includes posting manual journals to accurately record financial transactions and completing timely reconciliations of all assigned general ledger accounts;
  • Provide support to the broader Financial Accounting & Reporting team by learning daily and monthly tasks relating to other general ledger journals, reconciliations and reporting activities in order to provide secondary cover for assigned accounting and/or reporting tasks;
  • Liaison with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders as required by the above tasks. In addition to all areas within the finance team, this may include, but not be limited to, Actuarial, HR, Group Finance, Investments, Legal, ASIC / APRA as appropriate, Partnership distribution teams etc;
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations and investigate and follow up on variances;
  • Accurate calculation and preparation of journal entries in relation to specified areas of responsibility;
  • Regular communication within financial accounting and reporting team including pro-active communication with Head of Accounting and Reporting as and when issues arise;

Successful applications will demonstrate:
  • Education - Tertiary qualification in relevant subject matter (accounting, finance etc);
  • CPA/CA qualification (or international equivalent);
  • Sound technical accounting knowledge with experience in completing reconciliations and financial reporting (ideally 5+ years of relevant accounting experience);
  • Experience in using general ledger accounting systems;
  • Experience in preparing annual statutory reports for ASIC and dealing with external auditors;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Very strong relationship management skills to engage stakeholders and to understand their business objectives and requirements.
  • Advanced Microsoft excel skills and proficiency in all MS software.
  • Demonstrated qualities of responsibility, accountability, accuracy, reliability, flexibility and self-motivation.
  • Strong customer service ethic.

Knowledge in the following would be an advantage:
  • Knowledge of SAP including AO/BPC, SUN Systems and Vision;
  • Background in financial advice business or similar;
  • Knowledge/Experience of insurance and finance terminology as well as regulatory reporting requirements;
  • Experience in a Group reporting environment, either reporting to parent entity or consolidating reports from subsidiaries.
