Public Equity Manager Research Analyst


Greycourt & Co., Inc. is an independent, SEC registered investment advisory firm serving ultra-high net worth families and select institutions. Collectively, Greycourt’s clients have entrusted Greycourt with approximately $19 billion of assets under advisement and $5 billion of regulatory assets under management as of December 31, 2023. The position we are seeking to fill will ideally be based out of our Pittsburgh, PA or Portland, OR offices, but location may be flexible.




We are seeking an experienced public equity fund investor who has a proven ability to lead new investment research and monitoring for our clients’ active public equity investments. The Public Equity Manager Research Analyst may also have an opportunity to selectively cover other hedge fund strategies where appropriate.




The Public Equity Manager Research Analyst will collaborate with and report to Greycourt’s Head of Public Markets Research.




Day-to-day responsibilities will include:


  • Investment Research Lead the research for new active funds (mutual funds, hedge funds, etc.) and structured strategies (rules-based) in global equity markets. Thoroughly propose, research, document, and present new equity fund opportunities to the investment committee. Consistently ensure Greycourt has access to the highest quality equity funds available for usage in client portfolios.

Investment Monitoring Oversee the monitoring of global liquid and semi-liquid equity funds. Conduct quarterly reviews of manager performance, portfolio management, and organizational stability; compose reports summarizing the findings. Ensure that Greycourt’s documentation of equity funds and their terms is up to date and complete. Proactively and routinely generate constructive criticism on outstanding or substandard manager performance in investment committee meetings.  


  • Investment Redemption Enforce the timely and efficient removal of equity funds from Greycourt’s approved list of investments. Apply your instincts to identify performance issues, style drift, and/or organizational issues quickly. Maintain an eye toward future needs to ensure the timely redeployment of capital.

Maintain a Strong Commercial Presence Apply and grow your network of industry contacts. Attend industry conferences and communicate their core themes. Traveling domestically and sometimes internationally to meet with fund managers, clients, and other industry participants.  Commit to periodic one-off assignments. Coordinating with clients, consultants and other Greycourt personnel in obtaining information necessary for them to perform their duties.  


The ideal candidate will have at least seven years of experience in an equity research role, a solid network of equity fund managers and investor peers, and excellent writing skills, including the ability to produce concise reports on complex topics for external consumption.  A CFA designation and/or advanced education in finance along with a strong grasp of state-of-the-art statistical analysis in the financial industry and solid capabilities in building/utilizing models in Microsoft Excel is preferred.




The candidate must demonstrate the application of strong insights in researching equity funds and be able to articulate how one differentiates among the quality of opportunity sets and the abilities of managers pursuing them.  The candidate must also be able to assess the tax efficiency of recommended investment strategies.
