The Slovak central bank, Národná banka Slovenska, is seeking to establish itself as a highly regarded small European central bank with outstanding knowledge in specific areas.

A senior investment manager position is being opened in the new tactical asset allocation team. This position will complete the team that is part of a qualitative change in the investment strategy of NBS connected with the expansion of the investment space and profit potential of the bank. The investment team is responsible for delivering a substantial share of profit from the actively managed parts of this new investment strategy as well as its further development at the tactical level. Therefore, the position offers not only the opportunity to apply skills in the field of portfolio management to achieve active excess returns, but also to bring know-how and build tools and processes for the optimal performance of the overall tactical asset allocation in NBS. Delivering alpha will require employing various trading strategies across rates, credit and equities asset classes in both benchmarked and total return settings. The processes and tools build-out will be equally important part of the role and will involve close cooperation with the strategic asset allocation, risk management, IT support and back-office teams.

We are looking to recruit an experienced individual with portfolio management/trading/market strategy background. The department that this new investment team belongs to is widely recognised for its expertise in this field and is seeking to further strengthen its presence in financial markets. The role reports directly to the Head of the Tactical Asset Allocation Section and to the Director of the Market Operations Department.

An ideal candidate should have:
  • a strong background in financial markets
  • a track record in portfolio management/trading/market strategy
  • an ability to work in a team and bring new ideas
  • excellent communication skills, including an aptitude for communicating with management, for example on investment and risk management committees.
  • Front Office/Treasury systems knowledge is an advantage

The ideal candidate will be fluent in English, the ability to speak Slovak is not a requirement.

We offer:
  • work in a growing team of internationally active investment and portfolio managers who have multi-year expertise in financial markets from domestic and international institutions
  • an informal and friendly work environment including close contact with management
  • active involvement in further development of NBS investment strategy
  • opportunities to join projects involving the configuration of portfolio management at tactical asset allocation and strategic asset allocation levels
  • further training and development as well as opportunities to attend external events (seminars, conferences) with the Bank covering all expenses
  • an excellent quality of life in a mid-sized European city very close to a major global airport (Vienna);
  • work in the organization where diversity is welcome
  • flexible remote working as an integral part of the work/life balance;
  • competitive base salary and discretionary performance-based bonus

Slovak law requires us to state that the basic salary will not be lower than €3 500 per month; however, this does not include bonuses and benefits paid on the basis of internal compensation and benefit guidelines. Final offer will depend on the candidates' professional experience and knowledge.

Národná banka Slovenska is part of the European System of Central Banks.
