Senior Investment Operations & Performance Analyst

The Senior Investment Operations & Performance Analyst will have an opportunity to build Lansing’s investment reporting from the ground up. Lansing is in the process of a multi-year technology build out and this position will lead the review and selection of new performance and investment analytical systems, create new reporting, and design the process for ongoing system maintenance and improvement. The position will work directly with the President and the Chief Investment Officer to review, assess, and implement new systems and process and will be an integral member of the Lansing team working across investments, planning, accounting, and tax.

The Senior Investment Operations & Performance Analyst will be responsible for data integrity, systems maintenance, process creation, and implementation. The Senior Investment Operations & Performance Analyst will coordinate workflow and manage relationships between the investment team and internal and external entities including custodial bank, consultants, reporting and analytics vendors, and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate will seek continuous improvement in all aspects of Lansing’s work, utilizing technology, and training others.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Produce work of the highest quality and accuracy for the investment department, investment committees, and board.
  • Design and create investment reporting packages for multiple entities at the desired cadence.
  • Manage ad-hoc requests, reports, and projects as requested.
  • Assist in the daily maintenance, including reconciliation, reporting, and cash flow monitoring.
  • Prepare reporting and participate in Lansing Investment Committee Meetings. Trade and move money based on committee discussion and decisions.
  • Conduct quantitative analysis by developing and maintaining relevant data, charts, summary views, and detailed analysis to support our analysis and decision making.
  • Provide ad hoc support to team members in preparing for external manager and research meetings.
  • Manage relationships with external service providers, measure and monitor performance against agreed upon service agreements, and hold providers accountable to service level expectations.
  • Attend external conferences, as appropriate, to develop technical knowledge and advance your personal career.
  • Identify, develop, and promote process documentation, policies and procedures that support the quality and effectiveness of investment operations.
  • Promote knowledge‐sharing and training of other team members.

Skills, Experience, and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in investment operations, accounting, performance reporting, and working with third party service providers.
  • Knowledge of investment concepts, practices, procedures, management operations & tools. Conceptual and practical understanding of the various performance metrics, such as different money-weighted and time-weighted return methodologies, risk analytics, benchmarking, attribution, and asset allocation.
  • Understanding of alternative investments, capital calls, distributions, and performance metrics.
  • Experience with selection and implementation of new technology and systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of data feeds, databases, and APIs is preferred.
  • Strong interest in building a career in Investment Management, working with institutional investment portfolios.
  • BA/BS degree in finance, economics, statistics, mathematics, or other business-related areas is preferred.
  • Understanding of GIPS and ability to apply the standards to performance calculations and representations is preferred.
  • Experience with Board and Committee governance/relationships a plus.
