Job Description

Reporting to the Vice President, Taxation, this newly created position will be part of Brookfield's Corporate tax group. This role will primarily involve operational tax matters including tax compliance, tax authority audits, and tax accounting. This role offers an excellent opportunity for career development and growth as a Tax professional in a highly dynamic and challenging work environment.

The Manager, Taxation will work closely with other members of the Corporate tax group globally and will also work closely with Finance, Treasury, Operations and Legal groups to obtain information and ensure compliance with tax policies and guidelines.

Responsibilities:
  • Preparation of quarterly tax provision in accordance with IFRS;
  • Canadian tax compliance (preparation of corporate, partnership, and other returns/elections);
  • Responding to Canada Revenue Agency's audit queries and information requests;
  • Coordinate with external financial statement auditors;
  • Assistance with tax aspects of internal restructuring transactions;
  • Provide tax support to Finance, HR, Treasury, Tax and Legal teams;
  • Maintain various tax calculations and tracking of tax attributes, surplus, etc. and ensuring that sufficient documentation is on file to support tax balances and attributes.
  • Assist with tax planning initiatives, as required.

  • Organized, detail-oriented and able to effectively manage relationships with internal and external parties (including service providers and government tax auditors); and
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to deal effectively at all levels within the organization.
Education and Experience:

In order to qualify, the following minimum requirements should be met:
  • CPA with at least 4 years of full time progressive corporate tax experience at a national public accounting firm or equivalent industry experience (or 2 years with a Masters of Tax degree);
  • Experience with Canadian tax compliance and tax accounting under IFRS;
  • Experience with corporate income tax audits initiated by the Canada Revenue Agency; and
  • Completion of Parts I to III of the CPA In-depth Tax Course or Masters in Tax.
