Project Manager, Finance Focused Strategies
The project
The Financed Focused Strategy Project intends to understand and translate civil society's privacy concerns to an investor audience. Its goal is to increase investor interest in, and support of, technology companies becoming more accountable and attentive to their privacy and human rights practices.
The key question the project is addressing is: How can civil society organizations make common cause with investors and in doing so utilize the influence they have with corporate boards and management? The project’s strategy is built on developing quantitative metrics for investors to assess and engage with companies and prompt improvements in privacy practice, identifying where attention to privacy and human rights may support long-term company value creation and benefit portfolio returns – for example, through increased revenue, reduced costs, improved forecasting, and/or the reduction of systematic or idiosyncratic portfolio risk.
This requires synthesizing information and sentiment from knowledgeable and impacted stakeholders to build a clear message that investors can implement into their securities selection and convey to their companies. The project has begun with identifying salient adverse impacts on the human rights to privacy in consultation with civil society experts. The research team is now collecting micro and macro data and running analysis to identify where the strongest overlap with investor interests likely sits, within the concerns of the human rights community.
This project builds from research and strategy setting available here.
