Job Description:
The Role

As the Director of Data Enablement & Strategy, you will be responsible for leading the data efforts within Asset Management, specifically focusing on traditional and non-traditional data sets. Your expertise in data sourcing, evaluation, and integration will be crucial in supporting our investment decision-making processes and driving innovation in our data-driven strategies.


Data Strategy and Management:
  • Develop and execute the data strategy for Fidelity, focusing on data needs specific to the investment management process.
  • Oversee the collection, integration, and quality assurance of diverse data sources, including proprietary data sets, third party data, research data, and alternative data.
  • Collaborate with portfolio managers, research analysts, and data scientists to identify data-driven opportunities and drive innovation in investment strategies.
  • Develop frameworks and methodologies for integrating and normalizing diverse data sets, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define data governance policies, data standards, and data architecture frameworks.

Data Selection and Sourcing:
  • Identify and evaluate a wide range of traditional and non-traditional data sources.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the data landscape, staying updated on emerging data sources, vendors, and technologies.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external data providers to ensure data sourcing aligns to our strategy.
  • Collaborate with IT teams to design and optimize data architectures, data pipelines, and data warehouses to support asset management needs.

Data Initiative Program Management:
  • Lead and manage data-driven initiatives and projects, overseeing the program, including planning, execution, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define project goals, deliverables, timelines, and resource requirements.
  • Monitor project progress, manage risks, and communicate updates to key stakeholders, ensuring successful and timely project delivery.

Leadership and Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with data professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and technical expertise.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional Asset Management teams, including portfolio management, research, risk, and compliance, to ensure data needs are met and aligned with business objectives.
  • Stay informed about emerging data technologies, tools, and platforms, assessing their potential impact on data management and analytics capabilities.
  • Evaluate and recommend data technology solutions to support data cataloging, data integration, data governance, and data analytics.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Extensive experience in a similar role within the asset management industry, with a focus on data management and analysis.
  • Solid understanding of financial markets, investment strategies, and portfolio management concepts.
  • Strong expertise in data management, data governance, and data architecture principles.
  • Familiarity with analytic and visualization technologies a plus (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, SQL, etc.)
  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and data management best practices.
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Independent and strategic problem solver; accountable for and skilled in exercising sound judgment
  • Validated attention to detail as well as effective time management abilities
  • Passion for continuous learning and staying ahead of the curve in the data analytics field.

The Team

The Asset Management Data Office (AMDO) is a growing team that serves as a central resource to guide AM data strategy and programs. Established in 2021, the team was assembled to drive a "Data First" mindset across Asset Management, given the increasing importance of building data strategy into initiatives across all aspects of the organization. The team embraces a spirit of entrepreneurship, collaboration, and innovation as we work together to navigate the data challenges of emerging businesses (Alternative Investing, Digital Assets, ESG) as well as more traditional investing vehicles.

The team provides strategic thought leadership, data fluency education, data governance oversight, data quality expertise, data request prioritization and a variety of other utilities to AM. We aim to help simplify engagement, accelerate delivery, integrate business perspective, and improve the quality of all things data. Working closely with leaders across Asset Management and other key Fidelity business groups, we drive a "One-AM" approach to data investment and priorities for the AM business.
