Job Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for the production of and analysis regarding all VAT compliance of the EMEA group reporting into the Tax Director.

This boutique investment banking organisation is recruiting for a VAT Manager on a contract basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for the production of and analysis regarding all VAT compliance of the EMEA group reporting into the Tax Director.

Main Responsibilities
  • Review and submission of monthly UK VAT returns based on Partial Exemption Special Method (PESM) for the UK group, and for other entities where applicable.
  • Monthly review of transactions for reverse charge invoices for inclusion in monthly VAT returns.
  • Ensure VAT consequences of inter-company transactions are documented, recorded, and treated correctly for VAT reporting.
  • Preparation of accounting entries reflecting the partial exemption position of the group.
  • Calculation of the annual PESM calculation, submission and annual filing
  • Calculation of the annual VAT Capital Goods Scheme adjustment; Review of CGS and submission of annual filing.
  • Monthly reconciliation of VAT / GST accounts to submitted VAT returns for all EMEA entities.
  • Monthly SOX files/balance sheet substantiation preparation and sign off
  • Management reporting on irrecoverable VAT and key drivers of change
  • Key contact person for audit related VAT queries.
  • Provide VAT advice across all entities (see below for entities) to ensure risks are managed and mitigated.
  • Provide assistance and advice to relevant finance staff dealing with client invoicing and VAT related issues.
  • Provide proactive advice to the business and to finance staff on VAT issues and prospective changes for all entities (e.g. new jurisdictions, group transfer pricing project, VAT rates).
  • Review and submission of other EMEA VAT / GST returns for.
  • Liaising with external advisors on VAT matters.


The ideal candidate will be a qualified ACA/ACCA/CTA with a strong background in UK VAT. You will need to have experience working on partial exemption, the capital goods scheme and other VAT issues pertaining to financial services organisations. Experience across various overseas jurisdictions would be preferred. You will need to be a motivated professional who can effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment .
